1. Rest In Peace
I hope this doesn't turn into a bash fest.

He certainly had a high opinion of himself.

<snip>
Mr. Haig's long and decorated military service launched the Washington career for which he became better known. But he never lived down his televised response to the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.

Hours after the shooting, then-Secretary of State Mr. Haig went before the cameras intending, he said later, to reassure Americans that the White House was functioning.

"As of now, I am in control here in the White House, pending the return of the vice president," Mr. Haig said.

The four-star general served as a top adviser to three presidents and had presidential ambitions of his own. President Richard Nixon appointed him White House chief of staff in 1973. In that role, Mr. Haig helped the president prepare his impeachment defense and handled many of the day-to-day decisions normally made by the chief executive.

24. I think he just wanted to convey a sense that the Executive branch was still intact
. . . and he just flaked. Pretty funny when it happened tho. Everyone just said 'that's Al Haig for you'; pretty typical of him so it stuck.

May he rest in peace.

18. Haig spilled blood for this country, compared to the corporate bootlicking paper-pushing generals
of recent vintage.

20. I'm sorry. I can't say anything nice.
He was the one who looked the other way when the four martyred churchwomen were raped and murdered in 1980, he was the one who helped kill so many in Central America, and he was an evil man. May God have mercy, but if He does, I hope Sr. Dorothy Kazel has a word with him or two first.

21. Yes, what Haig said about the nuns was evil - considering he was Catholic
raised Irish Catholic, and went to Catholic schools and all.

22. Haig...
the man who would be president.

Was apparently a good soldier for many years...developed a super ego and a touch of meglomania at the end of his career.
