I think Obama just checkmated the GOP on health care!
First, he calls them out by inviting them to the summit on Thursday. If they don't show, they'll be shown to be operating in bad faith (like we didn't already know this...)

Now, his version of the health care reconciliation bill is set to include a provision to give the federal government oversight and veto power over health insurance rate hikes, right in the wake of Anthem Blue Cross announcing their 39% rate increases.

If the Repubs want to continue to be obstructionist, they're now in the position of defending Anthem Blue Cross's rate hikes in front of the entire country.

GOOD LUCK SELLING THAT TO THE AARP!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

This will be fun to watch!

1. I just posted about that in another thread. This is a gift!
Republicans want to be the party in favor of unlimited rate hikes? They're doing our work for us with this one!

... already been an overwhelming success. Let's see what happens.

5. I have some optimism. As Obama showed just by being elected...
The media can only do so much. I don't think they'll succeed in polishing the GOP's turd...

7. I think the rest of this year will finally go well for us, and the GOP will find
they are in real trouble by election time.

Their dreams of a big comeback will prove to be totally delusional - again.
Could be a lot of fun.

9. And the most beautiful thing about it all is, it doesn't matter if they obstruct
Because the House can pass the Senate bill and amend it with a second bill that meets Obama's proposal dead on and is handled in the Senate via reconciliation.

12. IMO the best part about the televised meeting..
is that any bullshit the GOP spews will be immediately challenged with reality. It's the GOP's worst nightmare.

Calling for transparency was a huge miscalculation by the Repukes and a massive benefit for us.

I forget which GOP rep it was at the GOP buttkicking, who wailed that the "American people should have access to the same kind of plans we do...." (which is a great idea, nothing wrong with it.)

Obama: Done.

So now, is that same GOP rep going to vote against the very idea he wanted to see in the bill, that is now in the bill?

and they'll have the instant support of 70+% of the population.

18. Kind of like homeowner's insurance in Florida
That turned out to be a lose-lose disaster for everyone, predictably so because this is not a new idea. Politics aside, this looks like a reheated version of stupid policy.

Any time politicians get involved in discussions of insurance pricing, I marvel at how mathematically illiterate they are. It is like watching people argue over whether 2+2 equals 3 or 5.

Insurance is screwed up in this country because 95+% of Americans are deeply ignorant of what insurance is, but don't let that stop them from declaring what it ought to be.

26. Check out what just happened with the ..
public option. Obama just introduced his bill which does not have a public option. He also raised the penalty amount for not having health insurance. I wonder how he expects people to buy it or pay for it? He made his move, as you said. I didn't think it was particularly fun to watch. What is does is cater yet again to the Republicans, whom he said he is please to have satisfied and made it so more people will die or live with health conditions which cannot be treated because they can't get or afford health insurance.

Here's one for the corporations, here's nothing to us. Our hero. He has shown us yet again what is important to him and it is not us. He is not a Chess Master, he is not a Jedi Knight. He is just a mediocre president who sold out his base and now wants his base to pay for it.
