POSITION AVAILABLE: DIGITAL JUSTICE CAMPAIGN ORGANIZER Duration: 4 months (possibly extendable) Location: Seattle This is a part-time (approx. 10hrs/week) contract position paid by monthly stipend.
Reclaim the Media seeks a project organizer for its Seattle Digital Justice Campaign, to build and mobilize a diverse coalition of Seattle residents and organizations supporting broadband Internet as a public utility in Seattle. The organizer will conduct outreach and education, lead and attend community meetings, and recruit and maintain a base of community activists with a focus on youth, people of color, immigrant populations.
Specific tasks will include:
* Educational outreach with local organizations about local communications technology needs, and helping to gather digital stories about broadband use and recruit organizations into the Seattle Digital Justice Coalition and the NW Media Action Grassroots Network (MAG-Net); * Working with RTM staff and member organizations to plan Seattle Digital Justice Coalition and NW MAG-Net public events; * Coordinating visits to elected officials, journalists and community leaders; and * Maintaining communication with coalition members through a campaign blog and social media.
This position requires a high degree of personal responsibility, ability to organize time and manage multiple threads of communications with people of diverse backgrounds. Desired: background in social justice organizing; digital media production skills (graphic design, web, audio and/or video)
Regular access to email, Internet and phone are required. Access to local transportation is desirable but not required. Work may be conducted at home or at one or more office locations. Some weekend or evening work may be required (for workshops or presentations).
