Meet The Real Victim Of Last Week's Terror Attack On IRS Building - Vietnam Vet, Vernon Hunter

Last week, Joseph Stack set his house on fire, drove to the airport, jumped in his plane and flew it into an IRS building in Austin, Texas. This deliberate, cowardly act of domestic terrorism resulted in injuring thirteen IRS workers and left one man dead -- a veteran of the Vietnam War:

When Ken Hunter first heard about a plane crashing into his father's office building in Austin, he said he hoped his dad, Vernon Hunter, wasn't there.

After several attempts to reach his father, a 67-year-old IRS worker, he discovered his dad was missing.

In the hours that followed, Ken said he heard lots of talk about the pilot's motivations and felt compelled to speak out on his father's behalf.

"There was just too much going on about what the guy did and what he believed in, and enough's enough," he said. "They don't need to talk about him. Talk about my dad. You know, some people are trying to make this guy out to be a hero, a patriot. My dad served two terms in Vietnam. This guy never served at all. My dad wasn't responsible for his tax problems." Read on: http://www.news8austin.com/content/your_news/default.asp?ArID=267537

Stack's political views can be debated, but he wasn't the real victim here. He committed an act of terrorism that took the life of an American veteran. As the son of a vet, I felt compelled to write this post and make sure that Vernon Hunter was acknowledged instead of being overshadowed by the sick, selfish coward who ended his life.

3. What does being a VV have to do with the story?
It is about as relevant as his race.

10. Yes I understand that but when I read statements like that it always seems that
if the person wasn't a vet or some other label the murder would be less tragic.

8. He was a hero, not a Puke coward chickenshit terrorist

16. It's no different than pointing out if a victim was a mother
or a teacher or a firefighter or whatever... it's just a description, that's it.

31. The only class consciousness I see in this is that Vernon Hunter was working class
(worker/soldier) and murdered by some petit bourgeois wannabe who owned a personal aircraft.

19. It's to contrast the people who are claiming Stack was a hero.
That's pretty obvious. His son was sick of people calling Stack a hero, so he was pointing out what he sees as virtues of his father.

Why does it bother you that he's a veteran? Or that he's black? People are playing the sympathy card for the terrorist, why can't they for the victim?

34. he joined the Army and fought for the country that segregated him based on his race.
The point that the son was making today was that his father didn't decide to harm Americans based on what he saw as a great injustice to himself the way Stark did.

27. Heartbreaking
Victimized by the murderous bastard Stack, and then victimized again through idiocy and the mSm - it happens all to often in our country.

It's disgusting that Mr. Hunter's family feels the need to point out the true victim in this attack - it should be a no-brainer ... instead, we have a no-brain media. UGH

I read the statement from Stack's daughter - imo, she should have kept quiet for a while. Thankfully, she 'stopped short', of endorsing her father's actions.

30. This statement was made by his older daughter...
...who lives in Norway.

I wonder what the younger daughter who was in the burning house thinks about her Dad.

Thought & prayers are with the Hunter family & friends.

And, speaking of heroes... what about the guy who used his ladder & rescued 5 people from the burning IRS building before the fire department even got there? There's got to be some medal we can pin on his chest, as well.

32. I think when it's all said and done
there will be many people worthy of medals - Stack sure as hell won't be one of them. One death is one too many, but I was shocked to learn there was only one. There must have been people ushering people away from that side of the building when they saw Stack incoming. I can't even imagine ...
