I saw it coming when Crist showed up for Obama and Biden.

2. Is he actually switching?
This article doesn't say anything about him actually doing it. Though having a strong alternative to run againstRubio- somebody who is even mildly sympathetic to Obama and the Democrats- would be great.

4. "Here's the bottom line"

Here's the bottom line: there are only two people who can win that seat -- Crist and Rubio. I'd much rather it be the former, and Crist ain't gonna do it as a Republican.

Sure would be nice to see a move toward the left in one of the prediction charts. Apart from Dodd's retirement, I think they've all been in the other direction for months now. Last January Charlie Cook had one moderately endangered Democratic senator (Bennet in CO) and six endangered Republicans. Now there are at least ten Democrats on the list (and that's after already losing one).

Of course... the flip side of this is the question of exactly how far things are moving if we're counting Crist as a "D" ?

9. Charlie was a democrat many years ago.

He's a political opportunist whose primary interest is keeping himself in some sort of elected office. He switched to the republican party when they took over this state. If he really wants to become a US Senator & thinks being a democrat is the way to do it then he will switch. I don't think he has any real political principles but he is more moderate than conservative.

Edit: Just checked wikipedia and that article does not ever have him as being a democrat. So, I think I must be wrong about that fact. (Would have sworn he had once been a democrat--Florida Sun is burning out my brain.) However the rest of what I said still stands.

10. Switching parties is really his only chance to win that Senate seat.
The GOP think he's too liberal for them, and Rubio has the teabaggers' ears, so I doubt Crist can run successfully as a Republican. As a Democrat, he'd get the votes of the straight-ticket Dems, plus independents who like him personally, and maybe be able to peel off the non-crazy remnants of the Republicans.

Really it's the only smart thing for him to do, if he wants that seat.

Tucker
