Art Teacher Draws Satanic Picture of Pres. Bush
Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 12:09 PM by icymist
(04/27/07 -- FAYETTEVILLE) - A Harnett County mother wants an elementary school art teacher fired. She says the teacher drew a satanic picture of President Bush on a classroom chalkboard as part of an art project. The teacher called it a joke, but the mother doesn't think it's funny.

Sara Fox, 11, drew a picture based on the one she said her art teacher drew on the classroom chalkboard.

"He cut out the face of George Bush and drew the body and then drew a tail and horns and flames around the body," said Sara.

She said in the background there was a picture of the devil with the caption "well done my son."

9. If so she would be as hypocritical as many of us would be
judging by the comments so far.

2. I can't defend that
no way no how. We would, rightly, be outraged beyond belief if an art teacher had done that to Clinton, we should be no less outraged now. Politics stay at the school house door.

8. Same here.
As much as I despise Bush, I don't think drawing a satanic picture of him is appropriate for the classroom.

12. While I might agree that elementary school students are not a
proper target for such political commentary, I disagree strongly with any reasoning which attempts to equilibrate Bush and Clinton. The Bush/Republican regime of lies, torture, illegality and unconstitutionality must be confronted and repudiated by America, including its educational institutions, just as it once confronted and repudiated another King George years ago. Bush is not within the American tradition of democratic republicanism. The cancer that began with McCarthy and Nixon must be excised from the body politic.

10. As a teacher, you invite your kids to express THEIR opinions (but appropriately).
This guy is an assclown. A teacher is supposed to open kids' minds, not incite prejudice. An open mind will easily discern on its own that Bush does the devil's work. But when a teacher does this, it's just wrong and stupid.

I'm a teacher and most of my kids know how I feel politically. I consistantly warn them they need to filter out my political opinions and expose them to a wide variety of ideas and interpretation of history and current events. But a good teacher will always underscore respectful dialog and open minded approaches.

The guy shouldn't be fired, but a week without pay and a mandated workshop on how to introduce current events into the classroom properly would be in order.

14. Thank you for being a teacher, Bucky.
I knew there was something about you I liked.

I want to go back to school and turn my degree into an elementary teaching certificate, but I doubt I'll have the time and/or money to do that with a new baby on the way.
