The lack of justice is the first sign...
of a society that is falling apart.

When there was no investigation of George W Bush and Dick Cheney, after their lawless Administration ended, people questioned why some folks are above the law? With the charges of torture and breaking the rules of the Geneva Convention, there was plenty to investigate.

Then, this week, we are told that Mr Yoo and his criminal friends in the White House would not be investigated or prosecuted. Even though he had said that the President had the right to kill American citizens and could order the massacre of entire villages of people. Does anyone truly believe such a statement?

We have lost the concept of justice. Without justice, there are no rules. There are no penalties if you are in the "accepted" class. Citizens will not accept such a government as legitimate. We are skating on this ice.

2. I think we will look back at 9/11, Katrina, 2 lost wars as the beginning of the end for us...
I've always said that the US will end with a whimper, not a bang.

7. I take your meaning and appreciate your concern, but injustice has been a fixture in nearly every
administration in our history. More in some, less in others, but always with us.

But, as pointed out by Lawrence Lessig in THE NATION ("How to Get Our Democracy Back"---February 22, 2010) "the only truly dangerous corruption comes when the society has lost any sense of shame."

Injustice and hypocrisy that once would have been the cause of outraged headlines from coast to coast are now casually discussed by blow-dried totally clueless newsreaders with the same phony emotion as they display when tellng us about water skiing squirrels and "who got voted off the island". Shame is a quaint notion that is thought to have no relevance in today's news cycle.

8. we're slowly losing the rule of law; and when it's lost, it's so hard to
re-establish

so many nations trying to slowly, slowly implement it, with very mixed success

and here we're throwing ours away
