Now the U.S. is Whacking Al Sistani's Opponents For Him
The US cover story is that this group was planning an attack against pilgrims during Ashurah (one of the holiest Shia worship days). It makes absolutely no sense that this Shia group would attack Shia pilgrims. However, Shia groups would be gathered together to do the pilgrimage making them convenient and easy targets. Apparently, the attack was directed by Al Sistani. So, he now has as much power as our President over tactical decisions in Iraq ( :wtf: ).

I REALLY don't believe the cover story. It doesn't pass the stink test. The trouble is that no one will be troubled to leave the Green Zone to find out exactly what happened.

...AN apocalyptic sect, led by a man claiming to be an Islamic messiah, has been wiped out in Iraq just as it was planning to disrupt the holiest day in the Shia Muslim calendar, Iraqi officials claimed today.

Iraqi soldiers, backed by US tanks and helicopters, concluded one of the strangest battles in four years of fighting in the country at dawn this morning near the city of Najaf.

Local government officials claimed that as many as 300 militants from a Shia sect calling themselves Jund al-Samaa (Soldiers of Heaven) were killed in fierce fighting that lasted for nearly 24 hours and cost the lives of five Iraqi personnel and two US servicemen whose helicopter crashed. A further 100 rebels were reported captured... http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21141222-2703,00.html
