Just one example of the exorbitant costs of health care

First off, I have a $20 co-pay on my health insurance plan for visits to the ER, but this this just shows the frightening costs of health care...

Couple weeks ago i fell & injured my ring finger (right hand)...It hurt like hell & there was blood under the nail (subungal hematoma), thought it might be broken....Went to ER, here is exactly what they did: took 3 X-rays (no fracture or break) & the physician's assistant drained the nail...While she was doing this the attending physician walked in, said couple words & gave me pain medication which i didn't need....The bill came today, $900!...Again, i was only responsible for the co-pay ($20), but this was about as simple as an ER visit can be...What would the costs be if you had a major injury or illness & didn't have insurance...

Come on Democrats, get HCR passed - soon....

I guess i haven't seen an ER invoice in a long time, $900 seemed like a lot...But, thinking about it, many hospitals would probably charge alot more....

if medicare and medicaid cut what they pay providers in half, private insurance will follow.


Of course two large groups here will tell you that doctors and hospital administrators deserve that money and you can't cut what they get paid, the other group will tell you that medical costs have nothing to do with anything it's insurance company's profits alone that cause anything bad.

I had a simple biopsy last year. An ultrasound was used so the doctor could make sure he stuck the needle in the right spot. The whole thing took about 25 minutes. The total bill came to over $1,000, all of which I had to pay myself. The hospital did knock off 30% because I paid within 30 days, but the cost was way more than I expected.
