Scared yet? Cantor: GOP will win majority if Dems use reconciliation rules

Cantor: GOP will win majority if Dems use reconciliation rules
By Michael O'Brien - 03/01/10 09:59 AM ET

Republicans will win back Congress if Democrats use a majority-vote tactic on healthcare reform, according to the House GOP whip.

Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the second-ranking Republican in the House, tied the use of budget reconciliation rules on the healthcare bill to Democrats' electoral fortunes this fall.

"It is my belief that the Democrats will lose their majority in November if they ram this thing through without any bipartisan support," Cantor said during an appearance on Fox News.

The GOP has been strutting with some confidence about their chances of taking back the House this fall, though Cantor's words may be the most direct link to date by a Republican leader between procedure on the healthcare bill and this fall's midterm elections.

1. Cantor has never known what he's talking about in his lfe
and now is no exception.

Democrats will be drubbed in November if they don't use reconciliation and health insurance reform dies.

2. They Are Scared!

IOW, using reconciliation is actually a great idea. When HCR is passed people will see Dems actually DO get shit done. They won't care that it was done via reconciliation.

4. We're probably going to lose it either way, so fuck it, let's get something done.
Time to stop governing like the next election is more important than the big fat crisis that's sitting in your lap.

5. Majority: Use it, or lose it.
If Democrats can't pass anything when they have a majority, they will certainly lose it.

Deservedly so.

Cantor, yet again, demonstrates that Republicans live in Bizarro world, where everything is ass backwards.

7. Cantor is a fucking idiot.
Wishful thinking. What a douchebag. And you know what? Who gives a fuck, if it means Americans finally get health care reform, because the GOP won't be able to take it away. They know this, which is why they're so afraid. Don't believe it? Just ask a GOPper how he'd feel about repealing Medicaid. Not gonna do it...so they can't let it happen in the first place. Cantor does not have a clue.

12. Why wouldn't they be able to take it away?
I understand about Medicaid, but that has been around for a while now. This will be a new program not quite in action yet. Is there some legal mumbo or something?

20. Obviously they would be able to in theory...but not in practice.
Once Americans are provided with health care, it would be a suicide run for any politician who drafted a motion to take it away. Sure, they COULD do it, but they won't. That's why the GOP doesn't want to let HCR pass in the first place. They've been trying to kill off all entitlement programs for decades, and allowing a new one to be created would be an epic fail for them.

13. How nice of him to be so worried about Democratic fortunes..
If they truly felt this way you know they would be cheering for Democrats to do it. However they know it isn't true, but that most people are stupid and will believe anything Republicans say to them..

we'll still have health care reform and Cantor won't have votes to override a veto. He won't have 60 in the Senate to do anything

16. Ohhhhhhhh, Eric,
Is that the reason the GOP lost in 2006 and 2008?? Was it because the GOP used reconciliation for Rx Part D and the tax cut for the wealthy??? Is that the only reason you lost?

21. GOP will win a majority if Dem's wimp out on health care one more time.
I can hang in for one more round. But after that I'm DONE! Health care is no longer an issue. The real issue becomes this. We used worry about someone like Nixon bringing the full weight of the government against an individual. Now we have to worry about Corporate America bringing their full weight against the government. The government can no longer regulate business. Because when push comes to shove. Corporate America wins. We might even have to go to war with Corporate America to reassert the governments power over them. They know this as well. That's why they are building up corporate army's like Blackwater/Xe. It took a civil war to end the tyranny of the plantation. It's going to take another civil war to end the tyranny of the corporation.

If it's political suicide, why are you trying to stop us rather than helping us off the cliff?

Or could it be that you're...scared?

23. "If I hold my breath till I turn blue", GOPers will win in November.
Stomp your feet, too, little Eric, and make nasty faces and scream "NO,NO,NO!"

Remember that in the late 1990's the GOP under Newt thought seriously that they had a PERMANENT majority in both houses of congress and taht they were on the verge of killing the Democratic Party.

They sometimes believe their own bullshit.

It will be funny in November when they lose. Again.
