Bunning to ABC News reporter: 'Excuse Me, This is a Senator-Only Elevator!'

http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlDC/online_media/bunning_excuse_me_this_is_a_senatoronly_elevator_153554.asp

ABC's Jonathan Karl had a bristly exchange with Bunning just outside one such elevator in the Hart Building -- Bunning was in the elevator and Karl was trying to get in there with him and pose a question about the senator's blocking a bill extending employment benefits.

Bunning wasn't having it. Not only did he forbid Karl from entering the elevator, but, as reported by Politico's Glenn Thrush, gave an ABC producer, Zach Wolf, the finger. (In our photograph we see Bunning's use of his pointer finger.)

Bunning has been in a foul mood as of late. Some may remember his "Tough Sh-t" utterance on the Senate floor last week.

1. A senator only elevator?
How elitist.

8. And that needs to stop
and ordinary citizens should be able to introduce legislation and speak on the House and Senate floor.

10. I got reprimanded for looking at a METRO map
during a Senate session. I felt like a school child when I felt the tap on my shoulder.

2. Bunning is still the best US Senator ever to pitch two no-hitters in the major leagues
That's still the best thing that can be said about him.

9. You should forgive him that . . .
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 04:21 PM by Jack Rabbit
That was only two years after the Mets' premiere season, when they had a team batting average of .219, a team ERA over 5.00, committed well over 200 errors and lost 120 games (still a record).

None of that was Jim Bunning's fault.

Besides, they were no-hit by an even better pitcher than Bunning, Sandy Koufax.

13. he's been ill and there is talk of dementia or alzheimers for a couple
of years. it was why the gop wanted him not to run. could be, he cannot help what he's doing because he is impaired.

3. It has been long rumored his "personality changes" might go
hand in hand with pre-senile dementia or even early Alzheimers. Supposedly, he'd always had the reputation for being a "gentleman" and a "good guy" until recent years. Of course, I'm sure the RETHUGS blocking him from running again, didn't help his attitude or level of unfocused anger.

12. Remember "Love Boat"'s Fred Gandy? He got in the members elevator
one time and the elevator operator (yes, it's got an operator) said, "Promendade deck, sir?" and Gandy had him fired. I believe he was hired elsewhere in the building.

14. Its Fred Grandy and that is an urban legend
Grandy was a doofus, but he generally wasn't an asshole to people on the Hill and the idea that he would have someone fired for making a joke about his Love Boat experience doesn't hold water.

17. I am really glad to be corrected. It never made sense to me that an elevator
operator would do that in that setting.

This story has a lot of traction here in DC because Grandy was such a humorless prick.

Thanks!
