Is Jim Bunning leading a filibuster??
How can one Republican lead a filibuster? Unless every other Republican agrees with him?

I know it's stating the obvious but isn't every other Republican just as guilty as Bunning for withholding unemployment benefits from those that need it?? If only one broke from the Party, would not Bunning's efforts be worthless?

This is politics at its sleaziest.

2. The bastard is digging himself a nice deep hole with this one.
He might as well proclaim an end to Medicare & Social Security while he's at it. Sometimes these guys go nuts like this - he's so fucking full of piss & vinegar & tea bags that he's in some kind of a half ass religious shaker.

5. He is causing delay.

By not agreeing to proceed to a vote by unanimous consent, Reid must file cloture.

The cloture motion must "ripen" over two days, and finally he must allow 30 hours of post cloture debate before proceeding to a vote. Reid did not anticipate that this normally non-controversial measure would be subject to procedural warfare by Bunning, and assumed he could move to a vote without objection. So until Reid is able to satisfy all of Bunning's procedural bombs the Senate cannot move to a vote on the measure, even if 99 other senators wanted to.

7. Thanks for that explanation.
I was wondering why they couldn't just move to an "up-or-down" vote on this when 99 out of 100 Senators don't object to it.

10. Yep, a lot are like him.
Did you hear Ben Stein say on CNN (I think) that the republicans are the people who work and pay taxes while the democrats collect welfare, or something to that effect. It was disgusting. I think it was on Wolf Blitzer.

I have at least four relatives who are republican and believe the same way. Everyone's out to get their money. They give the opposition no credit for working a day in their lives. They are against student loans, disability benefits, any kind of welfare for the poor and hate medicare and ss; that is, until they need it. Haven't heard a word about ss and medicare since they all became older. Funny that!
