Even before fomal announcement, Jerry Brown leads in the polls
Impressive, given the huge money machine that is Meg Whitman. The Brown name is still highly regarded in California.

"...Brown has run three times for president and once for the U.S. Senate. After leaving the governor's mansion in 1983, he started over, serving as the state party chairman, hosting a radio talk show -- in which he routinely referred to himself as a "recovering politician" -- serving two terms as mayor of Oakland and is currently the state's attorney general.

Steve Poizner, a Republican who on Monday announced that he was running for governor, said earlier that Brown's potential run reminded him of the movie "Groundhog Day."

Brown enters the gubernatorial race already out front. Polls in California show him leading Republican Meg Whitman by 5 to 10 points and Poizner, the state's insurance commissioner, by 15 to 17 points.

Brown has said he was considering a run for months. He's had a Web site bannered "Jerry Brown 2010" up and running, asking for donations and volunteers.

He's amassed a war chest of $12 million and the endorsements of Hollywood kingmakers David Geffen, Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg..."

2. That great news, but there is a lot of work to do
We've got months to the election and California Dems have got to work hard to right up until election day.

4. Absolutely. Whitman has unlimited funds.
But Jerry has a good reputation (and so did his dad). Imagine if Jerry had been old enough to run after his father left office. There would have been no Reagan...

7. True, but
He would still be better than many of the alternatives. He seems sharper than McCain or Reagan ever did.

10. Prepare to watch the Master at work.
Many pols would do well to observe how to run a campaign. He'll make those ads look as silly as they actually are.

9. I'm not surprised at all by those polls.
We remember our good leaders, and he was one. He's been smart since he was governor too...

I am so looking forward to having him be governor again!
