8. He obviously doesn't, but the GOP may care.
Particularly considering the vast majority of those losing their unemployment benefits live in either Red or swing states.

7. Not all of them have Bunning's name in the headline
Too many Americans only read headlines anymore.

They see government broken, Democrats in power, vote the bums out. Mission accomplished for Bunning.

19. Many of them don't mention his party affilitation, either
On CNN a reporter compared Bunning's actions to "when another senator (name and party not specified) held up the approval of several dozen of Obama's appointments." It was Republican Senator Shelby, and it was ALL of Obama's appointments, you twit, not "several dozen." 73 is not "several dozen."

9. Thanks for your research on this.. From the Colorado Road Projects..

"Among the construction sites where work will be halted: the $36 million replacement of the Humpback Bridge on the George Washington Parkway in Virginia; $15 million in bridge construction and stream rehabilitation in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and the $8 million resurfacing of the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi.

“CDOT has to have all the cash in the bank, so we have all the state funds in the bank. We go and obligate a project and get under contract and then what happens is we front the money, we pay our contractors and then we bill the federal government and they reimburse us. So when they’re not reimbursing us for a period of time we’re OK, we can continue to pay our bills and front the money but at some point we need them to come back and pay the bill,” Stegman said."

10. The problem with many of those projects are...
...even though they may have funds in the bank, if they require oversight from federal inspectors, they're still SOL. 'Cause the federal inspectors have been furloughed. They cannot legally continue construction until this bill passes and the inspectors come back to work.

16. I like to think of him as a Poster Child for the GOP.
That guy who typifies what the GOP stands for and makes it easy for the average person to understand.

;)

17. You know, people, there's nothing wrong with standing on principle.
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 03:44 PM by Hissyspit
If you ACTUALLY truly have that principle and apply it fairly in all circumstances and aren't a complete fucking hypocrite with ulterior motives.

And thus Bunning's fate:

Circle 8, subcircles 1-6, cantos 18-23

"Dante adorns the hypocrites in religious garb--hooded cloaks similar to the elegant ones worn by the Benedictine monks at Cluny (in France)--in accordance with the biblical condemnation of false piety: just as Jesus compares hypocritical scribes and Pharisees to tombs that appear clean and beautiful on the outside while containing bones of the dead (Matthew 23:27), so the bright golden cloaks of Dante's hypocrites conceal heavy lead on the inside (Inf. 23.64-6)."

18. Unfortunately, Bunning stands on his Senate salary and money from his faux charity...
...while unemployed Americans suffer his so-called "principles".

Funny that his concerns over the federal budget don't stop him from cashing his paycheck.
