Michael Moore: ‘Democrats are a bunch of wusses…It’s disgusting… I’m sick of them’
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 09:49 AM by still_one
"These Democrats are a bunch of wusses," Moore told Raw Story in a hard-edged interview Wednesday. "They don't have the courage of their convictions. They won't stand and fight."

2. again with the name-calling
. . . and the broad brush.

I'm all for criticizing their actions, but this approach is just feeding cynicism. I'd rather see more effort in recruiting primary challenges to those he feels aren't doing their job and let that candidate work to replace recalcitrant or errant Democrats before the general election. What I don't support is the general bashing of our elected Democrats. We don't need Moore to do that, that's what republicans are there for.

4. Perhaps, but the biggest problem with the Democrats is they don't even defend themselves when
attacked, and that is unforgivable

8. I am not sure. When Kerry was swift-boated, he delayed his response, and when he finally
came out, it was extremely half-hearted

10. he didn't delay shit
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 10:21 AM by bigtree
The media delayed reporting his response, and then only selectively; giving Bush the upper hand by ignoring his non-service. I outlined Kerry's responses from the first day, complete with the media which bothered to report on it. He flat-out called Bush AWOL, but you didn't hear that on MSNBC or CNN.

30. While the media is contributory, it is the lack of enthusiasm or fight from the Democrats
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 02:03 PM by still_one
and their surrogates

If the media delayed his response, then our own "swift boaters" should have countered.

As far as your AWOL on bush, he should have hired his own group to plaster the media with that. Are we defenseless? If we cannot go through proper media channels do we just give up?

Frankly, when the HCR started, the Democrats did shit. They let the repukes control the agenda and the town halls

In fact they are still doing it

We can blame the media all we want, but I can see it with my own eyes on CSPAN except for about 20 Democrats, most in Congress try to avoid confrontation

and you can't tell me that Kerry was good at giving a direct answer to a direct question, he wasn't

11. HCR should have been passed months ago. I can understand the cynicism.

When the GOP became obstructionist the Dems tried to play the nice guys...as usual. If you never call them on it then they'll keep making the same mistakes.

I'm all for civility, but when you know the game plan of the other side which is to stop you at every turn just to stymie the will of the people, then I would say that the gloves should have come off on September 1.

I really don't like wasting time. Michael Moore is at least being honest about where he stands.

14. why would I blame Moore for their actions?
It's his juvenile name-calling that I think is unnecessary and unhelpful - as well as the broad brush he uses to portray our elected Democrats.

But I agree with you completely about taking action in the primaries.

36. If the foo shits...
How else can one characterize a political party that, in opposition was hapless and disorganized and unable to actually oppose anything other than wrecking social security, and in power was almost as weak and disorganized as it was in opposition and completely unable to effect any substantial change?

We've squandered the two years we had to push real change, to get something done. Instead our party is going to get hammered in November for the mess the country is in economically and the incomprehensible failure to do anything other than pander to Wall Street billionaires.

12. They have been ever since Clintons 2 terms been over !
It seems like since bush came to office the Dems have been weak. Letting bush basicially do what he wanted and never taking any action. After the repugs trying to kick Clinton out of office for the entire eight years he was President! Now we have a Dem Pres.again and you think that would give the Dems some courage to tell the repugs to sit down and watch while they fix all of bushes screw ups ! No intead you barely hear a peeep out of them about how bushes 8 years destroyed this countries economy put millions out of work and wasted trillions of $ on a endless war ! I have always been a loyal Dem and will remain one, however Iam sick of the lack luster approach the Dems are using, they need to get tough . We sure do a good job a war and prisons. However creating jobs and putting millions of people back to work with full time jobs still seems much to low on the priority list of things to do . Those like me out of work cant keep waiting we need jobs NOW !!!!
Thank You Nik

15. I'd call Moore on it, and tell him....
OK, if you think they're such a bunch of wusses, then you put your ass, your money, your dignity AND your safety on the line and run for office. And if you win, then let's see how much you really accomplish in office. If he says no, then ask him, "If Al Franken can do it, why not you?"

Then the other question I would ask him is "If Progressives in Hollywood are so politically committed, then historically, why is it only Republicans from Hollywood running for office and winning?"

17. So, everyone with an opinion about our government should run for office
or STFU? Or just the ones you disagree with? Back in my day as a journalism major, there was this concept of the 4th estate which meant that a free press was considered an additional layer of checks and balances on the government. It was believed, back in those times, to have an important place in Democracy. But now, I guess, we've come to a time when no one dare speak out about what's going on unless they want to run for office and do it, themselves. Does that include all the citizens that have a right to seek redress from the government for grievances? Those elections could get pretty crowded, if so.

18. No, only the rich ones who complain all the time
And could easily afford to self-finance their own campaign.

I noticed you dodged the really hard question:

"If Progressives in Hollywood are so politically committed, then historically, why is it only Republicans from Hollywood running for office and winning?"

19. So, a rich journalist must STFU or run for office?
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 11:44 AM by laughingliberal
Couldn't they just continue to be a source of information for citizens to help them make informed choices?

Only poor journalists are allowed to tell us the truth without being required to run for office? No place for any other type of activism except running for office. As I said, that field is going to get awfully crowded.

I remember when Ed Shultz was asked to run for Senate. I, and many others, felt his voice reached more people right where he is. I feel the same way about Moore.

20. No,
But it seems too many of those most vocal about the problems faced and the solutions needed, never want to really step up and put their reputation on the line. Are we only to have businessmen and lawyers to choose from for public office? They haven't done all that great a job IMO. Journalists can take refuge behind the First Amendment when they screw up, BUT you cannot hide behind the First Amendment, (and yes I meant that and all that implies) when you're an elected public servant who is called to account for your actions and misdeeds. I wonder just how many of national level journalists could really stand the daily pressure involved in being a politician at the national level. Personally I think damn few. Given the fact that damn few national level journalist have ever run for and won public offices tells me a great deal about them. And since polls consistently show most journalist consider themselves Democrats, that really tells me a lot about them.

And I think Franken has 100x time the courage of Moore, I'd vote for Franken for President in a second.

23. So, if they can't stand up to the pressure of public office they must STFU
And private citizens who believe we still have a right to seek redress from our government? Run for office or STFU? Sorry, I do believe in the 1st amendment.

There is a place for journalists whether they want to run for public office or not. Just as I'm an activist nurse who has been involved in the battle for health care reform. The fact that I choose to stay a nurse and not run for office does not negate my right to speak out about our government.

I get it you don't think much of Michael Moore but I think he serves a function and he has 100x the courage of the corporate media whores they serve up to us on network and cable news. Funny, when Bush was in office, we seemed to admire our media in exile who were trying to get the truth to us.

24. Yolu're right...
I don't think much of Michael Moore, and I think less of the "talent" in Hollywood. And no, I don't think they, or anyone who seeks redress should have to STFU. I would just tell Moore and the rest of his Hollywood cohort that I think THEY are a bunch of spineless wimps.

As Molly Ivins would say if she were still alive, "Those dogs are all bark and not one damn bit of bite."

And despite all your protestations, I think many liberal journalist and entertainers are wussies. Too bad you don't like that, but that is my opinion and I stand by it.

And just so you don't think that I'm only bashing Democrats... every Conservative "commentator" and "corporate media whores" who bleats about how awful and ineffective government is, who chooses not to run for office, is also a wimp. Limbaugh being number one. Limbaugh couldn't handle being an elected official for one day.

27. I don' t like or not like it. I just disagree
People can fill different roles in society and still have an opinion. I think it does take courage to stand up against the corporate powers as a journalist. Many find their careers crashing around them when they speak out against the wrong people. I'm grateful for the ones who make it through the filters.

Wasn't it Jefferson who said if his choice was newspapers with no government or government with no newspapers he would choose newspapers with no government?

16. Read my lips:
You're never going to have a progressive candidate in the White House. You just aren't.

America isn't ready for one. They just aren't. It's far easier to just associate all things Democratic with the U.S.S.R. than it is to think and put 2 and 2 together.

Our media is owned by arch-right wing corporations that really, REALLY HATE the Democratic party and would like nothing better than to see them fail. Why do they hate them? Simple. They give people hope that things are going to change, and they don't WANT that. Everyone IN THEIR STATION and have the good goddamned SENSE to STAY there.

Ever heard of the expression "It's not enough that I succeed, but that everyone ELSE must FAIL"? There it is. The situation Republican corporate power holders want for this country is this:

"I have and continue to pursue EVERYthing. You can TRY to get a smidgen, but at the same time, I'm going to do my absolute godDAMNdest to make SURE you don't get it. This is a one-horse hill, Sonny Jim, and you ain't invading my space!"

Should any progressive candidate survive the media onslaught and miraculously win the primary over the DLC candidate and over the "painted-as-a-moderate-for-now" GOP candidate, they'd be shot dead within 6 months to a year tops.

The only people that are allowed to succeed in this country . . . are the ones that are already successful. This door's closing, it IS a race, and the more people that are left behind, the happier the ones in front will BE.

There is no more "when all do well, we ALL do well". No more. You're dealing with well-monied people who truly believe in this shitheap called Unbridled Corporatism, that it's a game that's meant to be won or lost and who truly believe people that lose and never recover get "their character built" or "learn a life's lesson". Oh, and you're also dealing with millions of useful idiots that believe it right along with them, even as they're getting pushed off the cliff.

Corporate America IS sabotaging American progress. Disagree all you want; stats don't lie. Zero net job creation in a decade, despite the lowest top marginal tax rate in 75 years. Near-40 year wage stagnation. Higher education is getting more costly and harder to attain. Pensions are being eliminated. Risks of all kinds have been shifted from the employer to the worker. Insurance conglomerates have ruined health care and refuse to even cover a PENNY of any major illnesses in some cases.

"Wusses" - the truth is, they can't WIN. Moderation is "milquetoast". Bipartisanship is "selling out". Progressivism is "SOSHULISM MARXIST USSR, Etc, etc." I'd love it if they reined in corporate power. They'd probably have to stay away from small planes, however.
