Paul Krugman: 'Bipartisanship Is Now A Foolish Dream'
New York Times columnist Paul Krugman on Friday waxes galactic when it comes to the partisan battles in Washington, writing that "Democrats and Republicans live in different universes, both intellectually and morally."

As evidence Krugman uses Arizona senator Jon Kyl's defense of Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) who temporarily held up unemployment insurance benefits to unemployed Americans across the country this week.

In his remarks, Kyl argued that unemployment benefits were a "a disincentive for work because people are being paid even though they are not working."

And more from Krugman:

The parties now live in different universes, both intellectually and morally. We can ask how that happened; there, too, the parties live in different worlds. Republicans would say that it's because Democrats have moved sharply left: a Republican National Committee fund-raising plan acquired by Politico suggests motivating donors by promising to "save the country from trending toward socialism." I'd say that it's because Republicans have moved hard to the right, furiously rejecting ideas they used to support. Indeed, the Obama health care plan strongly resembles past G.O.P. plans. But again, I don't live in their universe.

1. Wake up Paul. Please!
Bi partisanship is an excuse to continue the status quo.

2. That was my thought when I read it this morning
The fight to gain bipartisanship on HCR was continued as long as it was in order to make sure we got the most industry friendly, consumer screwing bill we could possibly get. Interesting to watch the pretzeling as they try to explain why we cannot now have a good bill if we're using reconciliation.

3. Send Krugman's Column On To Your Center-Leaning Friends
Send this Krugman column on to your center-leaning friends! It states a very obvious truth, a truth that should be obvious to any thinking voter who has even the slightest acquaintance with conventional economic theories or who even tepidly supports the New Deal's social reforms. What Krugman is saying is not only flamingly obvious for liberals, but also centrists, and even thoughtful moderate-conservatives, at least of the sorts who value both what's good for the USA and their ability to think for themselves over the Republican Party's right wing's drive for ideological conformity.

5. Blame Rush Limbaugh! Seriously!
Limbaugh bears a great deal of responsibility for the sharp turn by the GOP into la-la land and extremism. His success in the 1990s became the blueprint for FOX News, dozens and dozens of imitators at all levels of the media ladder. In addition his simplistic, hate-based ideology has provided comfort and direction for millions of weak-minded Americans.

Men of his ilk have been around since the dawn of time. Limbaugh is simply the best at it in our modern world.
