Gay Club Owner Calling for Ashburn Resignation
Source: KOVR 13/CW 31 News in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―

The owner of a Sacramento gay nightclub that Senator Roy Ashburn was at before his arrest early Wednesday morning on suspicion of DUI is calling for Ashburn's resignation.
The CHP arrested Ashburn at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. Sources tell CBS13 that Ashburn, known for his anti-gay stance, had just left FACES -- a gay nightclub -- before being arrested.

Today, FACES owner Terry Sidie said he thinks it's time Ashburn resigned.

"I think it probably would behoove him to step aside," said Sidie.

Others in the gay community are not yet calling for Ashburn to step down, but are commenting.

"As a public figure he has definitely crossed over into some territory that goes against what his public voting record shows," said Bill Otton, Interim Director of the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center.

Yet another HYPOCRITICAL republican who has voted against any attempt to grant GAY RIGHTS of any sort and turns out that he was coming from FACES, which is a popular GAY club here in Sacramento when he was clapped for DWI!! He's from Bakersfield. How can you hate yourself tht much and still draw breath everyday?

1. Since when do you have to be gay to go to a gay club?
Not defending this jerk, but for the past three days no one has asked this question so I'll bite.

4. If that wasn't the point, why are the club owner, or club patrons, relevant?
Why doesn't the story mention his voting record on DUI laws? Why is the club, or club owner, relevant?

3. And my Dear Ter....He's a notoriously ANTI-GAY republican from
Bakersfield who has gone out of his way to make life as hard as possible for Gay folks.. Get it now? Turns out that two papers and at least one anonymous politician outed his last year. BROTHERMAN IS GAY but voted against and campainged VICIOUSLY against anything meant to help gay people.

THAT'S WHY IT MATTERS!!!

8. I don't disagree with anything you're saying
This guy is anti-gay, and needs to be defeated next election, but the question still remains: How does going to a gay club automatically make one gay? I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but I know that's not the case in NYC. I have a close friend who goes all the time, he says it's the absolute best place to meet girls.

Again, I am no way defending him, but I get a feeling that the media seems to assume that anyone who sets foot inside a gay club is gay, and that isn't the case.

9. Whether he's gay or not, he was supporting gay establishment.
So, he shows one fact to his base and wears another one during his free time. Not much of a public servant, if you ask me.

And I'm sure he had perfectly plausible explanation for that "male passenger" being in his car too.

10. You've Got To Be Kidding!
There's a reason no one has asked this question: it's patently ridiculous. What are you suggesting, that a non-gay, anti-gay Republican state senator would voluntarily chose to spend time in a gay bar?

But when you have a 100% record of voting against LGBT equality, why would you want to even socialize with those that you have consistently voted against?

21. When asked in the past if he's gay, he's never said "no."
How many heteros do you know who frequent gay clubs? I don't mean once or twice, either.

It's a big city thing. While I never had, tecno music fans in NYC say the music is MUCH better in gay clubs.

5. Ashburn's voting record on LGBT issues:
* In 2006, he voted no on a measure to add material on the contributions of gay Americans who had contributed to the development of California or the United States

* In 2008 he voted against expanding anti-discrimination laws to include sexual discrimination.

* In 2009 he voted against a resolution to oppose Prop 8, the anti-gay marriage ballot question.

* Last September, he voted against recognizing out-of-state same-sex marriages.

* That same month Ashburn opposed creating Harvey Milk Day, to honor the slain gay rights icon from San Francisco.

I'm not surprised he's a Republican.

20. A LOT of anti-gay Republicans absolutely love to have sex with men.
They do not consider having sex with men to make them gay.

To them it's just playing, fooling around, and having fun.

Some don't see themselves as gay because they do not "fall in love" with other men and have no desire, NO desire, to enter gay relationships that are built on love, romance, and a lifelong commitment.

Some of these men are bisexual. They enjoy having their wives, children, etc., and to satisfy their same sex SEXUAL desires they fuck around with men on the side.

I am sure that some of them are so vehemently anti-gay because they are annoyed at those gay men that actually have the courage to be themselves in the society we live in, but there are PLENTY that truly have no desire to live partnered with a same sex spouse.

They just want to fuck around, not fall in love.

Both types disgust me if they are fighting against gay civil rights.
