Education expert on CNN: Tuition crisis can be solved with individual fundraising and ... microloans
Edited on Sat Mar-06-10 03:17 PM by Bozita
Latina woman seemed as clueless as a doorknob. She was on along with a Latino guy who said he found her tips helpful.

After seeing this, I think I need help.

1. Fundraising?
So families are supposed to have bake sales to come up with tuition money?

Did this woman give suggestions on what kindof fundraising would work? Schools around here do all kinds of fundraising - candy, magazines, wrapping paper, auction nights, etc. Is this the kind of thing she expects families to do?

Tuition has gone up 3X faster than income since 1982. Where is the money supposed to come from?

7. Perhaps holding signs at freeway ramps reading,
Impoverished Student
Will Party For Money!

That makes just about as much sense. Although, I did know a fellow English major who paid for her college, through a PhD, as a call girl. A very attractive, highly-paid one too. She was a friend of mine. She didn't find it to be a moral conflict for her. I accepted her choice in the matter.

N.B.: This was in 1969-75. I lost touch with her, though, so I don't know how her life turned out. She did get the PhD, though.

8. The solution is simple:
Keep poor riff-raff out of college altogether. They're what mops and brooms were made for.

:sarcasm: in case anyone really wondered.

Seriously, though, from the comments on the news blogs, this is what a lot of the uberconservatives think. Even those who are poor themselves. Freakin' idiots.

9. I saw that too, I hope Jon Stewart picks up on that segment.
It was almost comedic to begin with. He (or Colbert) could do wonders with that type of raw material.

19. The solution to the Tuition crisis is to pay more money? (microloans)
The solution is to tax the rich. Tax them until they are so small I can drag them to the bathroom and drown them in the bathtub.
