Bush Grants Self Permission To Grant More Power To Self
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/51140
WASHINGTON, DC—In a decisive 1–0 decision Monday, President Bush voted to grant the president the constitutional power to grant himself additional powers.

"As president, I strongly believe that my first duty as president is to support and serve the president," Bush said during a televised address from the East Room of the White House shortly after signing his executive order. "I promise the American people that I will not abuse this new power, unless it becomes necessary to grant myself the power to do so at a later time."

"The president can grant himself the power to interpret new laws however he sees fit, then use that power to interpret a law in such a manner that in turn grants him increased power." Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez

How freakin' scary is it that we have such a psycho in charge that the onion sounds real?
These whackjobs gotta go.

Impeach.Convict.Imprison.Repeat.

1. Mark of the times
Perhaps teh most worrying indicator that teh admin is out of control is the fact that as some outrageous story breaks, the first reaction of half of us is "tell me that's from the Onion".

2. Yep. We're never quite sure.
But then there's usually more conciousness of reality expressed in Onion headlines.

6. Your subject line would be amusing...
...except for the fact that it's dead on accurate.

8. I feel like I'm trapped in a twilight zone episode
We did well in november, so everything will work out right? .....right?
Bush pushes his boundaries over and over. Each time there should be a congressional backlash to put him in his place and restore our checks and balances.
Whadda we get? nothing. We get peckerheads like lieberman that are worse than nothing.
I have to have faith that Bush will get reigned in before he tangles with Iran (and Russia and China by proxy), but this whole "non-binding" isn't doin' it for me. Don't get me wrong, I applaud Speaker Pelosi,Russ Feingold, Maxine Waters, and the others that are standing up. But, something has to happen to shut the little tyrant fast. It's getting a little close for comfort.

10. The Onion has enjoyed its golden age during the Bush era.
They weren't just eerily accurate when they published "Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over'"; they were looking forward to the better part of a decade in which actual headlines would challenge their own in absurdity.

They've stayed ahead of the curve, but only just barely, as the tide of stupidity which has swept over the country has threatened to drown the Onion in irrelevance. I for one look forward to days when the Onion can be funny without also being the raven cawing the doom of our nation.

14. He doesn't have to proclaim it. As long as congress decides
to cede their power and the constitution of the US, this coup is basically complete. It doesn't have to announce itself.
