There's evidence that Dennis Kucinich is a right-wing politician
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 02:51 PM by angelicwoman
Some have recently painted Dennis Kucinich as some sort of right-wing politician, or just another Republican, due to his opposition to the current health reform bill being debated in Congress. Our first reaction to this claim might be, "that's preposterous! Kucinich is one of the most progressive Congressmen in the nation!" But if we look at the evidence, we discover that the Kucinich-the-right-winger theory not only makes sense, but is strongly supported by evidence.

The independent website "ontheissues.org" plots graphs depicting politicians' ideologies (liberal, conservative, moderate, or anything in between). The closer to the left one is, the more liberal/progressive one is. The closest to the right, the more conservative one is. Kucinich's graph exposes his true self:

There. Here's the link: http://www.ontheissues.org/Dennis_Kucinich.htm

Yeah, some here want to rid the "Democratic" party of this rare breed of loonatic who stands up to authoritarians, stands up for peace, and is behind 90% of Americans in America. Can't have that in THIS party dagummit!

7. But still votes to kill progressive legislation
No on SCHIP, no on Obama's health care reform plan, no on Obama's budget...no, what's really important to Kooch is his image.

Complete fraud.

8. Kucinich voted to expand SCHIP to 6 million children
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 02:59 PM by angelicwoman
One time he did not vote on a bill that excluded legal immigrant children from SCHIP.

Context is important. Reading his whole voting record is important as well.

He voted NO on an schip plan that would have EXCLUDED immigrant children. He voted NO on Obama's Insurance Profit Protection Act - when Obama provides ACTUAL health CARE reform - let the rest of us know, k?

and he voted against the budget because it funds WAR.

32. I agree and understand, if you have a pre-existing - it's something
and it's also true that the bill is more corporate welfare - there are NO cost controls and you MUST pay them or suffer under the force of law. When these corporations pose as "people" but do not suffer, as people do.

It's a facade. They toss a few crumbs from the banquet table to make room for dessert trays.

79% support SINGLE PAYER or PUBLIC OPTION. Which is what Kucinich is for. Obama and the corporate Dems are self-defeating running in the middle of the road with Health Care profit guarantees.

29. Even IF it were true
that 79% of Americans agree with DK on SP and PO, that does not mean 90% of Americans agree with DK himself and his beliefs. If that were the case, DK would be President of the US right now, not some whacky little guy who couldn't get enough support to mean anything in the campaign.

30. "just 20 percent oppose" plan similar to Medicare
When presented with the option of a government-administered health insurance plan similar to Medicare to compete with private health insurance companies, 72 percent are in favor and just 20 percent oppose. Even 50 percent of Republicans favor that option.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/06/19/opinion/polls/main5098517.shtml

The first poll that came to mind, didn't save any links from looking before.
My headline is slanted but makes the point that very few DISAGREE with what Kucinich is pushing for.
That's single payer, no? Not even the tepid Public Option we're fighting to get.

33. You are correct
that many do support a plan similar to Medicare to compete with private care, but less than half are willing to pay for it. Sorry, but if people don't support something enough to pay more taxes for it, I cannot accept that they really want it.

A question though: If I have this right, DK wants single-payer, correct? That doesn't really leave much chance for competition or choice, does it?

Because the media has utterly propagandized the Chickens to the point that they're in love with Colonel Sanders. Sorry but we need to go way back to, 'Do we consent to be governed' to address the concept of 'public willingness to be taxed for the common good'.

As for - choice; of course we have the choice to be gouged or not have coverage if we can't afford it. If this bill passes we lose the option to NOT pay the insurance companies fees. If the bill passes, those fees can go up 40% a year.

My question: If fees go up 40% a year, how many years will it be before you can't afford to pay? (yet you must pay or pay fines)

37. Ah yes, the evil media
is the real reason people do not agree. Funny how everything is blamed on the "liberal media" or "corporate media" nowadays.

'Consent to be governed' and 'taxing for the common good,' have nothing to do with a blanket statement like 90% of Americans agree with DK and his views on single payer.
You provided a poll which shows 72% support a Medicare like plan to compete with private plans and I merely pointed out that is NOT in support with what DK wants. He wants single payer, the poll shows people want competition and they are not willing to pay. That does not put them in support of DK, sorry.

I totally agree with you about this bill and I do not support its passage.
