Calif. Central Valley unemployment rates: 16.6% to 21.7%

The state Employment Development Department today released figures that showed Fresno County's jobless rate growing to 18.2%, up from 16.6% in December 2009 and from 15.0% a year earlier.

January's unemployment rates in neighboring counties:

Kings County: 18.2% in January 2010, up from 16.2% in December 2009 and 14.9% in January 2009.
Madera County: 16.6% in January 2010, up from 15.4% in December 2009 and 13.0% in January 2009.
Merced County: 21.7% in January 2010, up from 19.3% in December 2009 and 18.0% in January 2009.
Tulare County: 18.3% in January 2010, up from 17.1% in December 2009 and 15.4% in January 2009.
