Immigration provision has Hispanic Caucus threatening ‘no’ health vote
A group of Hispanic lawmakers on Thursday will tell President Barack Obama that they may not vote for healthcare reform unless changes are made to the bill’s immigration provisions.

The Senate language would prohibit illegal immigrants’ buying healthcare coverage from the proposed health exchanges. The House-passed bill isn’t as restrictive, but it does — like the Senate bill — bar illegal immigrants from receiving federal subsidies to buy health insurance.

Hispanic Democrats say they haven’t moved from their stance that they will not vote for a healthcare bill containing the Senate’s prohibitions.

However, it is unlikely that the Senate will be able to change the immigration provisions under reconciliation rules. And even if it is deemed possible, there may not be enough support in either chamber of Congress to do it.

1. And a lot of the same stakeholders are still watching Honduras and
now this:

Obama praises Uribe's acceptance of referendum defeat

U.S. President Barack Obama Wednesday sent a letter to Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, commending the U.S. ally for his graceful acceptance of the Colombian Constitutional Court's rejection of a referendum that would have allowed Uribe to pursue a third term in power.

In the letter, Obama applauded Uribe for providing "an invaluable example to all citizens, including presidents, in the acceptance of the law and the acceptance of the decisions of democratic institutions."

Following the delivery of the letter, Jones congratulated the people of Colombia for the country's "democratic stability."

Uribe sought to run for a third term as president, which is prohibited under the Colombian constitution. The Constitutional Court studied the referendum bill proposing that Uribe be allowed to run for his second re-election and found it to be unconstitutional.

Maybe it sounds fine for the American president to "praise" a Latin American president for supporting democracy -- to Americans.

Unfortunately, it comes off as condescending in Latin America and worse, Uribe himself, his family and his administration is being investigated for narco trafficking, the murders of union organizers and teachers, and mass graves dug during his tenure. MASS GRAVES. This is the person Obama is "praising".

Latino voters are watching this and coming to their own conclusions.
