Update on Reid's wife: Apparently her neck was broken but it's not
life threatening.

Reid's wife and daughter sent to hospital after car accident
Updated 5:22 p.m.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's wife and daughter were taken to a Washington-area hospital for treatment Thursday after a car accident, his office said.

Landra, Reid's wife, broke her neck in the crash and sustained other injuries, but a spokesman said her life was not in danger.

"Today Senator Reid's wife, Landra, and daughter, Lana, were involved in an accident in which their vehicle was rear-ended. They are both being treated at a Washington-area hospital," Reid spokesman Jon Summers said in a statement.

Reid is with them at the hospital, aides said.

22. Depends on which bones. And I suppose she is in her 70's
so that would add to the injury.

6. I'm no doctor, but I think you can break your neck without serious injury
to your spinal cord...I hope so...good vibes their way.

9. Yes, that is correct.
You can break the bones, but as long as the nerves are intact, serious injury can be avoided.

Good vibes to them, indeed.

16. I broke C-7 which is the lowest cervical vertebrum
12 years ago and blew it off because my back didn't hurt that much worse than usual. I managed to work another 6 years as an RN with it and I still haven't been able to get it fixed, no insurance. My handwriting got a little worse but there have been no other aftereffects beyond feeling it a little more in wet weather.

Just don't expect me to do any headstands.

10. It's not being reported on CNN's piece, just on WaPo that I can tell. We have to
remember that they always say the first stories that appear often are incorrect. I hope that's the case here. :(

12. That's one hell of a rear end accident
and I just wonder what the background of the jerk who slammed into them is.

So far, there's nothing about the accident itself, including the condition of whoever crashed into them, his name, or any other information.

It's good it's not life threatening and her prognosis is good, but it's still very serious. I wish her well.

19. That happened to my stepfather, sitting at a light, got rear ended by a Concrete Truck
No kidding, a loaded Concrete Truck rear ended him. The truck had lost its brakes and was going about 30 when he hit the full sized Chevy my stepfather was sitting in. His neck was broken too. He ended up OK though, and in fact never even had neck trouble afterwards.

I hope Harry's wife does as well.

30. I wonder WHO rear-ended them, and if they were paid to do so.
It's just too convenient that so many Dems have accidents. People will jump through a lot of hoops to keep their families safe.

31. OMG I was minutes from taking I-95 today at that time.
For some reason I drive up Fairfax County Parkway instead. I would have missed my interview!

I wish Landra and Lana all the best, and hope they recover quickly.
It sounds like Mrs Reid will be in recovery for months. Poor thing!!

32. Sawyer just said that his wife broke both her neck
and back but while the accident is serious both the wife and daughter can feel their extremities.
This was a bad accident. I wish them good vibes.
