Hate Gets Handed Its Hat in New Hampshire
It is Town Meeting season in New Hampshire, and our Fundaloons were organized across the state to bring small minded bigotry to the floor in the form of petitions requiring that the towns request the legislature to put a constitutional amendment restricting marriage to opposite sex partners to a state wide vote.

So along with the usual grumps begrudging every penny spent, including opposition to federal grant money to reduce town operating costs in the form of energy efficiency upgrades, we had the Hate Worshipers out demanding that small minded bigotry be enshrined in the Live Free or Die State's constitution.

It is difficult to get people to show up for these events as they are terminally boring, so there is always a fair chance that the insane, feeling motivated by their God and everything, will outnumber the sane. And as our little meeting managed to drag on into night two of one scheduled nights, participation by the time the Taliban's petition came to the floor was sparse to say the least.

I am proud to report that here in Hollis New Hampshire, by a vote of around 90-60, Hate was Handed its Hat. The petition was sent down to defeat and in fact was rejected for consideration, it was tabled. Only one religiously impaired bigot had the courage to speak up for Fear and Loathing while around ten, a Minyan ironically, spoke for tolerance.

The Culture War came to town, and we won.

2. I can't figure out Vermont and New Hampshire.
How can they be right next to each other, yet Vermont is the most liberal state in the Union, while New Hampshire is very libertarian-Republican?

4. We voted it down. 90-60.
Libertarians who are honest about libertarianism have to reject Talibanism.

10. That's why most so-called Libertarians - aren't.
A true Libertarian (and we have a few, very few up here who really are) consider any intermingling of religion/state to be obscene.

Congrats on your town meeting!

11. Indeed it is a pretty good marker.
The ones who just mouth the small gummint words without actually a clue as to what that means fall over their own tongues trying to explain how gummint should get involved in the Who Can I Marry game.

5. New Hampshire has 2 Dem. representatives, Dem governor, 1 Dem Senator.
The State woke up. :)

7. I hated even having to vote to table it.
I usually can at least understand the mind frame of people I disagree with, but I simply cannot find any empathy for the Taliban crowd. Putting our rights to a vote? What is that about?

9. Apparently everything is now negotiable by "reasonable" people.
It's the New Impunity.

6. I love Hollis. Nearby Silver lake. The apple orchards.

Do they still have the antique car show and flea market the last Sunday of the month?

BTW: Good for you. Show them the door and the bottom of your boot.
