We apologise for these images but they speak more eloquently than any politician of the plight of Zimbabwe's starving people

For us it is a saddening sight - a magnificent bull elephant struck down in his old age.

But for the starving of Zimbabwe, it was little short of a miracle.

The carcass provided a vital source of food, and hundreds of desperate villagers in the Gonarezhou National Park descended on the dead animal within minutes of its discovery.

Using machetes, axes and knives made from tin cans they set upon the six-ton carcass, which was found deep in scrubland.

He's 86, and ill.

And the Commonwealth should stay out of the whole thing.

13. No, they hate the idea of interference by ANYbody.
Particularly anybody who is white.

They've been 'helped' once too often by white people.

They have to do this, alone.

14. and you have spoken to everybody there who is starving, its total BS
if someone hands you food you dont care what the colour of their skin is, and who says anything about white, you do realise the commonwealth is mutlicultural and multiracial, but if what you say is right and they dont want help from white people is that only here or is it everywhere cause you might want to tell all the white people to stop donating etc... jeez

16. Actually I pay attention to the news,
and to friends in Zimbabwe.

No, they don't want white people helping them, and in particular, the British.

My country is part of that Commonwealth.

28. Now you're just arguing to argue.
I'm sure if you shipped food to the country they'd eat it....that's not the same as having the Commonwealth or the UN invade the place.

Please don't use topic-slide, it's a waste of time.

30. Oooh! But Mugabe's a militant anti-European black man,
while at the same time, Zimbabwe at this point is clearly a hopeless basketcase, even by African standards.

Oooh! :nuke: Worldview implosion! :nuke: (At least for some of us here.)

Anything problematic we may have heard from Comrade Bob? Merely a mistranslation! (From the English.)
