Were we, in March of 1910 or in March of 2010 .......
..... the more egalitarian society?

1910: The gilded age was at its zenith. The Haves had plenty and the Have Nots had .... not much. There was a clear disparity of personal wealth that, through the sharp focus of historical facts is easy to understand.

2010: Is it, for the Haves, better or worse now?

1. The Haves have it better now, simply because there's more to have.

3. In March of 1910
the so-called Progressive Era was in full swing, partly as a reaction to the excesses of the plutocrats of that day. Will we ever see such a groundswell of support for true reform? It depends on how much human suffering can be endured before people take to the streets again. The plutocrats of our day should hope for a new progressive era instead of the alternative, which could come closer to the French Revolution than the 1910s.

4. Today is the more egalitarian society, and it's not even close.
And anyone who says otherwise is using blind hyperbole.

Was there a middle class in 1910?
Did people have the access to information we have now?

Oh, and then there is the slight matter of the rights of people that happened to not be white and male in 1910 as opposed to now.

Yes, the Haves have more now...but the Have Nots of 2010 have exponentially more than the Have Nots of 1910.
