We need a really big Rally
A really, really big and loud humongous gathering for human rights, health rights, world peace and every thing we stand for. The Teabagsters have been making the headlines. Let's limbo in Washington this summer and show them a real Rally.

Bring a chicken and we'll barbeque some chickens and ears of corn, play some music and dance. Be there or be square.

1. I say we do it somewhere besides DC. Maybe Witchita, KS. That way, the local economy
will benefit, it's centralized, and the media may have a hard time ignoring a couple hundred thousand demonstrating in a midwestern city.

23. How about National "Con-Current" Rallies all on the Same Day?
All over the country, and maybe, they could raise money for local schools?

That might get covered.

3. It won't be covered.
I'm not kidding. It will be mostly ignored by the corporate propaganda outlets.

I've seen the way they do it. Reporting 1,000,000 or more people marching against the various wars as "hundreds of protesters", while several hundred teabaggers get non-stop fawning media attention with no long shots to give anyone a glimpse at their actual dismal turnouts.

I'll be there just the same though! :smoke:

5. The press won't cover it unless we spit on people and call them names
and carry hateful banners and you don't need a big crowd to do this. Sorry, just being cynical this evening.

7. We could be our own press. We can draw on thousands to spread the word and
we can cover it ourselves online.

Just because the national media won't cover it is no reason not to do it.

13. Fine with me. But bring a chicken for the grill.
And some ears of corn.

And some cole slaw.

And some yeast rolls.

Let's write this down, so we won't forget anything.

can help organize something. Gonna need a message or two though. A purpose for being there. I'm assuming it'll be positive but should/could also call for justice for bush admin and a stop to war and retreat of our empire to concentrate on mitigating climate change while advocating for the transition to a new green economy to include nationwide highspeed rail.

It'll need a name and a logo for promotion. A video editor like Lame54. A way to collect funds and disperse funds. Etc. We have some good experience here on DU for this type of action - davidswanson comes to mind, among others.

16. Sounds all good, but could you condense it to a phrase?
Some short phrase that says it all. And reminds everyone to bring a chicken for the grill, some ears of corn, some cole slaw, and yeast rolls.

18. I'm pretty good at this sort of thing as my job involves marketing, though I'm not a pro. I'll
give it some thought. All I'm thinking about anymore tonite is how nice it would be to go crawl into bed for a little nighty-nite.

22. Except that many "progressives" no longer stand for world peace.
Including many on this board. Now that a Democratic president is leading the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq.
