Something that hasn't been mentioned - hard to believe as that might sound - that helps us
In the last three of four days of the Health Care Insurance debate in the House a whole bunch of Democrats finally, and for the first time, stood up on the floor of the House and also outside, in interviews by the press, and called the Republicans on their lies. One after another they grew a set of balls. It only lasted that few days - really, it became really noticable in the last 3 days of the debate - but you could see they took a liking to doing it. If they had been doing that last spring we would have had a better bill than we got back in August. The important thing is that if they keep on standing up and calling a lie a lie then maybe they'll actually get a good bit done and it won't take a year per bill to do it.

2. That's because they really wanted what we got..
Private mandates with no public option..

If they had stood up and fought all along we probably would have gotten a strong public option, something the powers that be were adamantly opposed to.

4. In honesty that is the best explanation I've seen for it.
I do not know a single reason to try to refute what you have said or a single fact with which to do it even if the reason could be found.

6. Yup, Obama never called out those opponents
Kucinich gets called out, in public, in front of his own constituents. But it would have been "retarded" to call out opponents of the public option, in their districts, with ads.

You see, when they actually want something......

3. It's a hopeful change, but I've seen it before a few times...
...and it's vanished all too quickly.

Let's hope (and encourage) this is the start of a more lasting change of tone.

5. I call their rhetoric "barking behind the fence".
Now that the legislation is written they can bark as loudly as they want. It's all theater.
