2. Won't ever happen.

But, I think they should send the same bill back to the president, over and over again, until he either has to sign it, or bring troops home.

3. That was my thought too.
I can't for the life of me figure why they didn't send a surgical clean bill to begin with.

4. Doubtful you could pull out the pork.
It depends on a politician's definition of "pork."

10. The other option is
to Fund the war in 3 month segments. Basically saying we will oversight your war by having this drama over and over. Making it clear over and over which party wants this war to continue. Never let Bush get away from this war. It's a political loser and the Dems know the Republicans in congress can't keep supporting this loser forever.

12. Pork is evil, wicked, mean, bad and nasty when it is somebody else's pork.
When it is your pork it is ummmm, gooood. Democrats, Republicans, it's all the same.
People love their own pork and hate any pork that goes to somebody else.

13. Why send it back?
Bush has indicated he isn't interested in working with Congress to adopt a policy to continue the military occupation, so he shouldn't be getting any money from Congress.

14. Pork???????????????
All the things in the bill except for the fresh fish and peanuts farmers I thought were necessary. Like ammo and equiptment for the troops. Like the fixing up of Walter Reed. Like money for education. And money for Katrina victims. I don't consider that pork.

What I consider pork is 1.5 million dollars to refurbish a statue of Vulcan in Alabama. A 400,000 dollar parking lot for a town of 300 people. A bridge to nowhere. A train to nowhere and stuff similar to that. The dems did not put that stuff in their bills the republicans did, and bush did not once mention pork which is what that was.

18. Removing the nonmilitary spending from the bill would give the bill more legitamacy
Education funding and Katrina recovery money should have been included in the regular appropriation bill which was pass just a few months ago. If they are so important, why weren't they included?

15. Won't happen. It won't ever pass.
They had to load it up to buy off some DINO's.

The fact is we are many votes short of a true bill being passable, but it wouldn't matter because we are decades away from a veto-proof majority.

16. I don't know about decades, politics doesn't move geologically like that.
Pass Civil Rights legislation, and a solid Democratic South becomes Republican overnight.

With Bush's record of the last several years, and a lot of Republicans vulnerable in 08, things could happen a lot quicker than you think.

17. I wish I shared your optimism
I live in NOLA. This city was destroyed by Bush, thousands died because he wanted to play guitar and eat cake instead of doing his job, and he continues to thwart the recovery out of sheer partisanship, and yet the Repuke candidate is going to win the governorship with 70% of the vote, the state is seeking again to outlaw abortion, and even our 'Democratic' members of Congress are anti-choice, pro-war bushbots. And Bush would still carry Southeast Louisiana if he ran again.

A disappointingly HUGE percentage of people are very stupid, very uninformed and easily manipulated by tactics that favor the right. And I fear that 4 years of Hillary trying to out hawk the Republicans might stop our momentum.

In any case, we would need more than 20 pickups of Repuke seats in the next election to get there (when factoring in the DINO's you would have to negate). That ain't happenin'. I doubt anyone could name close to 20 vulnerable repuke senators, not to mention the FIFTY plus house seats we would need.

I hope I'm wrong.
