Tea Party protesters cross line on Capitol Hill
By

Hopefully now that the debate over health care reform is winding down, some small semblance of respect and civility can return to the American political process.

The chances of that happening completely are slim, but the least we can hope for is a dissolving of the racist imagery and hurtful and inappropriate words the Tea Party used in the anti-government/anti-health care protests last summer will cease to exist.

While it is great that Americans have the right to free speech, there are times when the idea of free speech gets distorted into something it is not.

Last Saturday’s protests on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on the eve of the health care vote in the U.S. House exemplify this distortion vividly.

So long as those anti-health care protestors had the correct permits to protest outside the Capitol, which they seemingly did, they had every right to be there and to let their voices be heard.

What was not part of the permit they received from the city was the right to spit on members of Congress, yell racial epithets at them, call them “faggots” or physically push them as they passed by the protestors.

According to accounts from various news organizations, Capitol Hill staffers and members of Congress, all of those things happened.

-snip-

Calling your president a socialist, fascist, communist, anti-American, Muslim-terrorist and Kenyan-Nazi is really nothing of which to be proud. Bringing guns to protests, yelling racial and homosexual slurs at members of Congress, and then spitting on and pushing our elected officials is nothing to go around celebrating about either.

In some parts of the media and in certain political circles, these protestors continue to be touted as some sort of “freedom-loving patriots.”

This needs to stop and they need to be called what they really are: ignorant, pathetic and embarrassing.

There is simply no place for these kinds of actions and behaviors in a civilized society.

Even in protests, a line needs to be drawn, and in the case of these most recent anti-health care reform protests, that line has been crossed and this nation is worse off for it.

-snip-

2. Most of those commenting
also seem to be too stupid to realize that it's an OP/ED piece, not an actual article.

3. It seems the defense is "the Dems made them do it..."
I saw that clip of Elizabeth Hasselhoff (sp?) on the View saying the same thing.

Failing that, they claim no one used those epithets, it was all made up. Does anyone have the offenders on tape?

6. All those comments are from the same person
They're all written in exactly the same style and in the same vein. A teabagger who can write eloquently. That's even worse than one who's a total Idiocrat.

8. One time he says hate is human nature, one time he says he is a doc of 25 years and never turned
away anyone but it is his right to treat who ever he wants or some such shit.
Basically this is a fight between people who care about others and people who don't.

14. None of the comments were eloquent.
They were just rehashed talking points. Whoever was writing the comments, whether one person or more, was neither logical, nor eloquent. They used all of the cliched speech of Wally George and all of the misspelling of a typical right wing idiot.

7. I wonder if the tea baggers ever have an original thought. I don't thing there is a comment that is...
posted there that I haven't heard on a right wing talk show somewhere. This morning while driving I was listening to some idiot talk show host in San Diego complaining that Obama had a kid at the signing and that the kids mom died. He said well they have socialized medicine in England and people die there.

9. The comments section in my local paper seems to be dominated by people who sit there and wait
for each new article, immediately responding with idiotic angry right-wing blather. It makes no difference what the subject is, or whether it's local or national news, or op-ed. It apparently gives their lives meaning.

This is in a county (Chester County PA) that voted for Obama.

15. Wait, do they know Portuguese? Coz that's exactly like MY local paper's comments section!
Even if the article is about who's likely to be eliminated next in Big Brother, they manage to insert blather about Lula. I feel like caving their faces in with my monitor.

"well just to let you know don't hold your berth on racial bigotry ever going away because its human nater to hate it has always been that way and will always be that way as long as we all look different and think deferential and feel differently about things that's the way its is so get use to it its the way of the world hope for change but prepare for disappointment"

My Writing,Spelling,Grammatical and Punctuation skills absolutely suck...But at least I know what Spellcheck is and how to use it!

And they wonder why we think of "Teabaggers" as uneducated knuckle dragging Neanderthals.

Edit to Add: my GF thinks that Neanderthals may have been more civilized and educated than these Fools!
