Edited on Wed Mar-24-10 04:42 PM by sufrommich
or democratic leaders in the government cheering on anarchists in Seattle, maybe you could show me an example of any mainstream democrat ever cheering on any violent mob. In the meantime, right wing extremist who gathered at the capitol with racist signs and threatening to bring their guns next time are greeted on the lawn by their republican representatives. Sorry, I'm not buying that "both parties are bad"bullshit. The extremist element of the republican party are their base and leaders in government.
The homegrown terrorist attacks in this country are usually committed by right wing thugs goaded on by their media and their leaders. Democrats do.not.do.that.

Just a low-level insurgency. Thousands of people still die every year.

25. And the extremists there started the exact same way.
And similar things happened other places. "Kristallnacht" was just a bunch of broken windows, too.

Depends on the response from our side..
There will be more teaparty terrorist incidents.. if our side strikes back then it escalates. Thats how civil wars start.

20. I disagree with your assertion
The civil, (ironic name for a war), war was was fought primarily over economics. This is a different time as I would hope that you would agree.

The vast majority of the contemporary rich got that way honestly. It requires work and investment. Those two virtues should not be trivialized. At least that is my opinion.

10. My FIL is conservative and rural.
He's all full of the overdramatic crap you're asking people to stop. Heck, he and some of his fellow "townsmen" have formed their own little hush-hush civilian police corps. Not that it would ever get anywhere, but like you, he lives in the heart of biblebelt repuke country - and I know he's thinking "civil war."

12. Not a war but there could be some real acts of violence.
It reminds me of the time of the Oklahoma City bombing in the 90's. Lots of militia movements against Clinton.

It would seem that only the fringes get any airtime anymore. It severely distorts and mis-informs. They are no more passionate that we were when WII happened.

24. Probably nothing like a civil war
I would be surprised not to see some domestic terrorism. The rhetoric is too extreme, and terrorism doesn't require anything like the numbers and organization needed for a civil war. I just don't believe the majority of Americans Americans care that much, as long as the Predator drones are launching missiles within US borders. Rhetoric aside, there isn't that much difference between the two parties were civil liberties and a militaristic foreign policy are concerned.

Progressives will use nonviolent methods (protests, civil disobedience, boycotts and general strikes) to disrupt the status quo. It's the Right Wing fringe most likely to be violent, and they are more vocal than numerous.

Most of the violence is probably going to be on the part of the government during marches and protests, and it will be directed at the Left, not the Right.

The success of the WTO protests in Seattle back in 1999 is viewed as something that cannot be allowed to be repeated.
