Nevadans--question about Searchlight rally
My SIL is telling me that Palinites are showing up in Searchlight Saturday, intending to overrun Harry Reid's hometown. Supposedly, there are supposed to be 10,000 teabaggers going there, a lot of them from here, Atlantic Coast. She also said that there are only two hotels, whose capacity is about 200, and the town population is about 800.

Is anyone familiar with this assinine rally, and whether or not the guv is planning on declaring a state of emergency if they all do show up? If that many troglodytes show up, the water supply is going to vanish, and there is a strong likelihood that there could be a lot of violence with that many idiots storming the town.

So what is Nevada planning on doing about it?

1. Why do you think they'll be able to get more than a handful of people
if that?

8. I imagine they won't
But like I said below, even 1000 people is going to be a lot more than the town can sustain.

11. They couldn't get more than 600 for their "Massive" convention.

If they could have had the numbers then they would have shown up there first.

I smell some serious BS coming from the queen bee of "look at me!"

2. laugh?
Yeah, there's supposed to be a rally in Searchlight at some cretin's property. Why I think the teabaggers are synthetic and is a PR creation. Our local news talks about the event that's going to happen in Searchlight. Not once, but many times--like it's one big party. Now if this was a peace protest or a * protest, the media would be silent. I'd say after over twenty years of faux news, 24/7 hate spewing neo-cons, that the corporate media and repukes have their totally clueless following. I don't know how many people will show up, but we got some real goosesteppers here, as well as, in Arizona

I mean if the media is attempting to make it into a main event, we'll see if they succeed. They're so afraid of losing their freedoms (at least that's what they say), but they apparently weren't concerned when * was suspending habeas corpus, posse commitatus or passing the unpatriotic bill. I just don't know what freedoms they're afraid of losing--they already lost some under * and they didn't even care.

10. I know what you mean
and you're right. It's going to be a major PR bust, though, if they incite violence and someone gets hurt, especially if any of the trogs are carrying weapons and get drunk along the way. However, it oculd end up just being a wash, and there might not be a problem at all.

4. Searchlight won't hold 10,000 people!
We used to stay there when we took our pontoon boat to Lake Mojave on the river. It's pretty tiny.

5. That's what I was asking about
If they do manage to get even a tenth of that, 1000 is still doubling the population, which won't work out too well for the citizens of the town.

You have to wonder, except for it being the hometown of Reid, why they would risk such an enormous endeavor on such a small town. In one good way, however, the citizens will always hate the teabaggers and Palinites if they mess up the town. (I presume they already hate them, and are likely all Reid fans)

6. Oh great, there goes our local news again
leading story is about the teaparty event in Searchlight--the anchor woman queries whether or not Searchlight can support all of those teabaggers.

9. Searchlight is a ONE Street Town - on the way to Laughlin and Arizona.
They can't hold 1000 let alone 10000.

Positive it will be a bust.

12. Laughlin impresses me as sort of the white(r) trash(ier) Las Vegas
At any given time there are probably 10,000 tea partiers there, staying in the low rent riverside hotels and the RV parks.

It might not be too hard to get a few of them to drive over to Searchlight if they thought they could somehow harass Sen. Reid. Probably nowhere near 10,000 though.

I went to a few conventions there and what I remember most about the place is the smell of hydrogen sulfide wafting up from the sewer manholes. Although the river was pretty cool, the rooms were marginal and the food for the most part, sucked. We always skipped the convention dinners and snuck up to LV to eat. Back in the day of cheap gas. Drove right through Searchlight too.
