BBC: Vatican denies Pope failed to act on sex abuse claim

The Vatican has condemned claims that Pope Benedict XVI did nothing about a US priest who is suspected of molesting up to 200 deaf boys decades ago.

A Vatican newspaper editorial said the claims were an "ignoble" attack on the Pope and that there was no "cover-up".

Archbishops had complained about Fr Lawrence Murphy in the 1990s to a Vatican office led by the future pope, but apparently received no response.

One victim told the BBC that the Pope had known "for many years".

Arthur Budzinski, now 61, said the Pope should confess about what he knew.

The Catholic Church has been plagued in recent months by abuse cover-up claims in Europe, echoing paedophilia scandals that rocked the institution in America eight years ago. .........(more)

The complete piece is at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8588294.stm

3. What could possibly go wrong with having a former Nazi as a pope?
There have been plenty of despicable popes, but this guy is doing it right now, in the modern era.
