Don't the voice mail messages that Stupak received prove something?
The Republicans have denied that their leadership people have provided any of the inspiration for the people who are out to terrorize Democrats that voted for the HCR. It seems to me though, if you listen to the calls that Stupak has on his voice mail, these people don't seem to have prior knowledge of him. Why would you call up the most pro-life Democrat and call him a "baby killer"? I mean this is the guy who wanted tougher anti-abortion language. I think the answer is that they are not the types that are really paying attention to politics on a day-to-day basis. They are really just single issue people who happened to see the news reports of the House member standing up and calling Stupak "baby killer" on the floor of the House and just decided to get in on the act. It makes no sense otherwise. If they knew Bart Stupak, they could be mad at him for many things, but calling him a pro-abortionist only makes sense if they DON'T know of him, and were just following their leadership's example.

3. Because he stood up and defended the bill and voted for it in the end
They felt he was a traitor to their cause.

Actually, I have to commend Stupak a little, even though he was the ringleader of this abortion insanity, and I feel a little sorry for him. In the end, he stood up and defended this bill as being entirely pro-life, because it would save actual real-live born children who were being denied insurance because they were ill. And he seemed quite sincere today when he said the language was not meant to restrict abortions further, just to keep to the letter of the (bad) Hyde Amendment regarding government funding.

However much he bungled up this whole health care debate, he didn't deserve messages and threats like he got.

5. I believe Stupak said most of the calls are coming from outside his district.

6. I got hung up on the southern accents
of the calls I heard..to a Michigan Rep.

But YOU are right on, with this!
The callers were ALL clueless about the facts,
the timeline, the position(s) of Stupak..
& ALL sounded hysterical, 1-issue-obsessed,
mentally-ill and potentially dangerous.

Their 'leaders' better get a grip.
