These people have become so isolated that they regard any mainstream news source and more of a public enemy than Bin Laden. Murdoch, Limbaugh, the rest of the depraved.....are laughing all the way to the bank.

Isolated is right! In the conservative hell-hole, backward states and rural areas that we are saddled with, there is absolutely no viewpoint on their media horizon except the far, far, loony tunes right wing. They live in a fact-free "bubble" zone where lies are truth. No other point of view is allowed to be heard. (How explicitly un-American can you possibly get?)

Some, maybe most, of these people are simply hopeless, hate-filled basket cases. The ones I feel sorry for are the potentially sensible people living in these benighted areas that are so saturated in right-wing fear and hate that they just "take to it" without really realizing it, the way a fish doesn't really "realize" that it is surrounded by water.

What a pathetic way for America to ultimately go down the drain - dragged down by its most uninformed, least educated citizens, driven by fear and hate, unwittingly led by the nose by greedy corporate overlords. Who'da thunk it?

I am a born and raised Kentuckian, something I was once proud of, especially my Appalachian heritage. I am always so torn now between love and disgust for my state and people. The propaganda of the right is pervasive here, no other opinions need be acknowledged. It is basically assumed that people want only RW hate in the media. The Churches focus mainly on right wing politics and very little on helping people. We have reached a sad state of affairs, with the media and religion combining to use hate to promote corporate agendas that enslave the people they make into their mouthpieces with lies. I live in Lexington now, a nice sized college town, and still there is too little acknowledgment that there could possibly be differing opinions. I think religion has just about blotted out the sun and it is almost as if to be a true liberal is to be assumed to be against God himself. Quite a tactic by the GOP, horrific and evil, but effective. And we aren't as bad as the deep south, we actually have a Democratic Governor, and two of our 5 congressional districts have Democratic Congressmen (Lexington and Louisville, of course, the largest cities). Yet in policy, what religion and hate media request - they get.

and I just have to say that, yes, there are plenty of Right wing nuts here, but too many people I know in this very rural area ARE Obama supporters and liberals for me to believe that it is our rural areas "bringing us down."

A lot of the Freeps and baggers i see are suburban, subdivision type freaks. They guy who rammed the SUV into the car with the ten-year-old in it (mugshot in thread) doesn't look like a rural type to me.

Right now the GOOP has no real political power, thus its only strength is through faux noise and hate radio...and they've done an effective job in calling the shots. The interesting thing is to see how much longer they can keep up the screaming until they plain wear themselves out. There are some signs that's starting to happen...

To be perfectly truthful, America is sinking fast into shit creek. Corporate Nazification is at hand. It may take force one day soon to defeat corporate based fascism one more time. Now is the time to pay very close attention and a time to be ready to protect yourself from terrorism of every stripe. You have every right to protect yourself and your family. If it's a rumble the nut case class demands and insists upon, then a rumble they should have.

I was raised to believe that America is worth fighting for...I still see it that way today.

In all fairness, we're STILL going by their failed way of doing things on most aspects. Wealth-to-worker inequality is still higher than ever. The tax set-up is regressive as all get out. The rich STILL don't pay their fair share. We still don't have Universal Health Care. We STILL have lunatics who live in an age where Andropov/Chernenko and Reagan are still alive. We're the least-family friendly country out of industrialized nations. Our wages haven't risen in real dollars since 1979. There hasn't been one net new job created in 10 years. These occupations need to end, but aren't ending.

The democrats in Washington, for the most part, are GOPer lite. "Going along to get along" with ruthless corporate fascism did not work out well for the German people 65 years ago. The Russians and English played nice with the fascists and they paid the price too.
