Rachel Maddow takes out a full page add in Boston calling out Sen.Brown's bullshit

People in Massachusetts picking up their morning papers today may spot an open letter from Rachel Maddow. The full-page ad explains that she's not running against Republican Sen. Scott Brown in 2012. Brown sent a fundraising letter suggesting that he'd be facing the "liberal MSNBC anchor" and needed donations to fend her off. "I'm sure she's a nice person -- I just don't think America can afford her liberal politics," he wrote.

Today in the Boston papers, Maddow writes:

Do you remember when Mitt Romney ran for President after being our Governor and he went around the country insulting Massachusetts, talking about what an awful state we are? To have our new Senator raising money around the country by saying how terrible one of his Massachusetts constituents is, kind of feels the same way to me.

She adds that Brown still refuses to appear on her show and writes: "Maybe he'll change his mind -- I hope he does."

It really doesn't matter, because whatever she did, they'd come up with some stupid reason that it makes her look bad/makes him look good. I think she's spot-on. It's like that story about LBJ who spread a false rumor about his opponent because, "I just want to hear the son of a bitch deny it."

Although, a small and subtle "threat" to run if he continues his antics would have been justified and quite entertaining.. ;)

There is this story - where, even though the BH tries to blame the Democrats, he looks really stupid - as does it spokesperson.

Not really helpful if his goal is to be seen as a serious Senator - something his comments earlier this week when he wasn't sure if he was for repealing the health care plan or his whiny statement after the reconciliation bill passed that suggested it was unfair because it ignored his election.

Now, I would bet that Kerry's office is the one that moved on this - as it has often before, but it's interesting that the paper wrote it like this. (I'm not from MA, so I don't know anything about this paper.)

when she first brought this up? Without ever threatening to sue, Rachel basically established 1) That Brown's claim was either knowingly false or was made with reckless disregard for the truth (the basic standard for upholding a defamation action for a public figure); and 2) that Brown may be "using her name and likeness" without her consent, which sounds like the foundation of an invasion of privacy suit. I also noted she played a radio excerpt (Wednesday, I think?) where the interviewer asked Brown why he hadn't bothered to call Maddow to see if she was running. His response was a whiny-sounding, "I didn't know I had to." Followed by the inscrutable "Bring her on."

Kinda sounds like an idiot.

I remember listening to her while going to work in the wee hours of the morning. She was on Air America (I think). I also remember thinking the same thing over and over - "This gal is gonna go places and will make it big time some day on the national front".
She does an incredible amount of research for any of her work whether on radio or TV.
