I don't think anyone's death should be a public spectacle. It just disgusts me that we as a society engage in making it so.

1. I agree with you 100%.
Also, the fact that mistakes are made and innocent people are executed.

6. 13 of the 25 men on our death row were factually innocent of the crimes they were convicted of
We had a Chicago Police Commander and his men torturing false confessions out of innocent men.

That should be enough for anyone with even a little bit of sense right there.

4. It's very creepy when it is the state doing the pre-meditated murder.
I am absolutely against it, in all circumstances!

The death penalty is barbaric and antiquated. There is no place for it in a civilized society.

7. Oh, you meant in AMERICA! Sorry, I thought you were referring
to the administrations sanctioning of death penalty by Reaper Drone. My mistake.

FYI, I agree w/ your post and am not calling you a hypocrite, but calling society out on it's macabre duality re: "right" and "wrong'

8. It is sick an disgusting, even if done in private.....cheering crowds
and public excitement over an execution is incomprehensible to me.

10. cali, i too am against public spectacle but sometimes it isn't about us it's abt cruelty
i don't think hiding someone in a dungeon for decades where gods know what can happen to them, including beatings and abuse, is better for society just because it makes US feel more comfortable

if i were an innocent person falsely convicted i would rather be put to death quickly than tortured for decades

there's the argument to be made that we have problems w. our international relations because other (civilized) countries don't have the death penalty, and i accept that argument, but being imprisoned is so horrible (esp. in the usa) i think we have to acknowledge what we're advocating -- which is that GUARANTEED some people will suffer terribly, for decades, for us to have an easier way w. our international relations...

public suffering is not necessarily more terrible than private suffering for the victim

the argument shouldn't be about my precious feelings sitting back here on the internet, it should be abt what is the most humane treatment of the prisoner
