http://www.korea-dpr.com/

It is amazing how a whole people can be so isolated .

My God , as bad as Saudi Arabia is , it is orders of magnitude ,more connected to the world than N.Korea.

5. Their shop is really nice.
All these items from the early Eighties ... I'll need 1000mg of DPRK right now!

And don't diss Saudi Arabia. They're your best friends.

6. Check out the honors this dude got for putting up a freakin' website:
Edited on Fri Mar-26-10 06:08 PM by wtmusic
"Mr. Alejandro Cao de Benos is awarded with DPRK medals and honors, like the Order of Friendship, Medal of the Republic Foundation, Order of the Flag of the Republic and 'O Jun Hup' 7th Regiment badge awarded by the Korea People's Army in Panmunjon. He is also Delegate Counselor of Banzeminzon (Anti-imperialist National Democratic Front of South Korea) and Honorary Journalist by the Central Committee of Radio and Television of the DPR Korea among other responsibilities."

(and a pretty damn ugly one at that)

10. Man, they must be desperate for SOMEONE to say SOMETHING nice.
I like awards. If I could think of something nice to say, I'd definitely post it. BUT I CAN'T.

8. In April you can take a trip there to celebrate their Great Leader Kim Il Sung.
Unless you're American.

Every time I think of N. Korea I think of Jim Ward's hilarious Kim Jong Il impression on the Stephanie Miller show.

13. Gotta agree
There are creepy police states and repressive dictatorships but nowhere else takes it quite so balls out crazy as N. Korea. Kim kidnapped a S. Korean movie director and his wife to make the N. Korean socialist version of Godzilla.

Something even Qaddafi never did! That deserves recognition and maybe some kind of small award statue.

14. Interesting that their "official" site is a dot-com.
With their inflated sense of self importance one would think they'd use *.kp (kp is north korea's country code)

16. heh. Well this thread got me thinking about the beautiful Korean folk song AriRang
so I went to find it to share it here... thought it odd that the Von Trapp family covers this song on one of their discs.

Turns out, it's the great grankids of Captain Von Trapp.

Nice sound these kids have.

17. And compare them to how insulated the people of the US are.
From any part of the sane world, the US is obviously the most murderously insane mass murderer on the planet. Bodies everywhere. A death count none can even hope to match.

"It is amazing how a whole people can be so isolated .

My God , as bad as Saudi Arabia is , it is orders of magnitude ,more connected to the world than..."

than the people (like you) who get programmed every day by the US corporate media and flout their ignorance as if it were an insight,

18. Great Jumpin Jesus
Are you trying to defend N. Korea?

Suggesting that our crappy corporate media is as bad or worse than the state run garbage they live with? The place where it's claimed in all seriousness that cherry trees blossomed when the Dear Leader was born in mid winter. A birth that was, of course, heralded by birds. That he played 18 holes in one the only time he ever golfed. Oh, and his mood controls the weather.

Oh yeah, I wish I lived in a place as nice as N. Korea. Our government is much worse. I'm just flouting my own ignorance here, N. Korea would never use propaganda like this.

Ghost Highways

North Korea is a land of vast motorways, some with as many as 10 lanes. But they are always empty. Very few people own cars.

Pedestrians and cyclists zig-zag across them as they are so unused to traffic.

But even though these roads host few vehicles, they are beautifully tended. Every Sunday, the people who live close by can be seen dusting down the gutter and pruning the shrubs on the road. Some might be visible in the distance here.
