Co. settles complaint over anti-Semitism

BALTIMORE, March 18 (UPI) -- A human resources company has agreed to pay two Jewish brothers $115,000 to settle allegations they were subjected to years of harassment at a Maryland office.

Scott and Joseph Jacobson filed complaints in 2008 against Conn-X LLC, a cable TV company in Maryland, and Administaff Inc., a Texas company that handles personnel matters for Conn-X, the Baltimore Sun reported.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the settlement Wednesday. The EEOC said the brothers reported the harassment had been going on since 2005.

In their complaint, the brothers said both co-workers and managers at the Conn-X office in Harford County used slurs like "dirty Jew" and "dumb Jew." Scott Jacobson said someone drew a swastika on the vehicle he used for work, and he was thrown into a dumpster and was tied to a fence and used for target practice with BB pellets.

Administaff failed to respond to their complaints, they said.

The company denied any wrongdoing, saying it began an investigation as soon as it learned of the problems and severed its relationship with Conn-X.

The brothers' complaint against Conn-X remains open.
