That part of Missouri around Springfield and Branson is the most backwardly political island in the entire fucking country.

they are thick in Jackson County, MO (Kansas City/Independence). You are correct, Joseph Smith declared the area within 50 square miles of where I now sit to be Zion. This was after Nauvoo. There were many Mormons among the early settlers of the area but they were run off over the issue of slavery in the 1840's. As far as I know, Mormons and their various stripes and denominations still own more land in Jackson County, MO than any other group. The two main sects both have temples in Independence, MO, where, according to some, Jesus will be resurrected.

Branson is suffering greatly with the economy. Plus, the entertainment industry down there is a bit like the tobacco industry. Every year your best customers are dropping like flies and it is harder to find new ones.
