...alienate the Christian Right?

Hookergate II (pretty entertaining)

Before I get into the juicy bits, let me just say that I believe prostitution should be decriminalized. I think people should have a right to have sex for love, sex for fun, sex for dinner and a movie, sex for a part in a movie, sex for yachts and opals (my personal faves) or sex for cash on the table, if all parties consent to the deal. I believe that this is such a sacred inalienable right that it should not simply be "legalized," implying that the government could change their minds and make it illegal again. It should be decriminalized so that there is no more criminalization of selling sex than there is of selling food. Maybe you need a license or a permit to sell certain kinds of food in certain places, and the same could go for selling sex. But there's nothing criminal about opening up a restaurant, nor should there be about opening a brothel.

I also believe that people engaged in all of the above activities deserve privacy and confidentiality, especially in the harsh, intolerant climate of modern society. However, when our elected representatives and public servants use billions of dollars in the taxpayers' money to pay war profiteers to badly equip a rotten war, who then, as a "thank you," provide them with call girls at poker games, such as seems to have occurred in Hookergate I, all bets are off. These johns need to be exposed, not because they pay for sex, but because they spend our tax money on war, then get sex as a kickback.

1. Neocons can't alienate the Christian Right
Neither of them stand for anything but taking what they want at the expense of others. There's nothing to alienate.

3. What you're saying surely does...
...apply to the average morally bankrupt Neocon and to some extent the Christian Right, but I think a fairly large number of the latter have been successfully conditioned from early childhood to simply accept the edicts of the church without question, and never taught to think, question, and reason for themselves. The predictable result is a large number of pre-programmed automatons willing to march in lockstep with the church's position on every issue. I think these are people who sincerely believe they stand for and live by God's laws which takes precedent over all else, and that they could be alienated by something like a sex scandal.

Just my opinion.

4. True, but...
IMO here's where the hangup is:

Many of the Christian Right are also conditioned to listen and accept whatever their leader says without question. So, if their leader is in cahoots with the neocons, as is Robertson and Falwell, they will simply believe that whatever is said about the neocons is lies when they are told to believe that. If if gets bad enough they will tell their sheep that the neocons are doing God's work, and that will finish the matter. We're already seeing signs of this as it is, with fundynutties spouting off rhetoric like global warming is a sign of the second coming, etc.

5. I don't pay too much attention to Robertson and Falwell...
...but they do seem like con artists who use religion as a cover. They probably wouldn't be alienated by sex scandal as long as they get their agenda served. On the other hand, Christian Fundies who listen to right wing pundits like Pat Buchanan I think might be quite alienated from BushCo and the Neocons if Hookergate II implicates too many Neocons.

2. While the Christian Right are trying to stop Americans from having sex
They support the Neocons regardless of how deviate the acts and many of the Christian Right leaders are just as deviate as the neocons they are in bed with.
