Fuck Bill O'Reilly.
Where is his donation to the family of Dr. Tiller?

I'm surprised how easy some people are bought off.

6. I don't know, me personally? I like to give credit where credit is due
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 07:53 AM by no limit
this act doesn't excuse anything O'Reilly has done in the past. But I can gurantee you the father of that marine doesn't give a damn about O'Reilly's past bullshit, all he cares about is that he won't go bankrupt because of some ignorant racists. And I'm glad his legal fees will be paid. And if more right wing scum follow his lead then that's a good thing.

10. btw
I think Bill did the right thing and I'm impressed.

my point was overstated and a speculation on what may still be an unintentional consequence.

12. i agree
if somebody like oreilly does a good act, the response is ALWAYS "he's doing it for PR" etc.

whatever

that could be true about somebdoy one ideologically agrees with ALSO

regardless, it's a good act, and good acts deserve praise

that's what FAIR people do

unfair people can't give praise where it's due

because their politics matter more than common sense, human decency and fairness

7. Honestly, he should have offered to help pay for the supreme court briefing
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 07:53 AM by izzybeans
...if he really supported the troops. Instead he gave him hush money to walk away when there is still one last round of legal proceedings. There is still that outside shot that he wouldn't have tp pay the court costs. And given the court believes that money is speech, then it would be a violation of free speech to force the man to pay anything, because it certainly wasn't free. ;)

9. Yeah completely
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 08:02 AM by izzybeans
The man is having a hard time coming up with money for the supreme court battle and wouldn't be obligated to pay anything until the process plays out. Now he has money to walk away. But no money to continue. So Yeah, that's SOooo insane. :bounce:

I'll give Bill-O the benefit of the doubt and assume he wasn't mentally astute enough to put his money towards continuing the case rather than ending it. So, my morning grogginess led me to overstate something. Hush money? maybe not. Shortsighted? Sure. If I was the father of the marine and I couldn't move forward to the supreme court b/c I didn't have enough funds to continue, I'd accept the money and walk away in silence - which is my bet on what happens. Perhaps an unintentional consequence of Bill's nice gesture. I'll go with that. Also if I truly supported this man, my money is on him to win or lose, and if I were a multimillionaire, if he lost in front of the supreme's (which is likely), yeah I'll pay all the costs incurred.

11. How was this guy going to go to the supreme court when he couldn't even afford his current bills?
Those current bills were going to drive him toward bankruptcy. So your argument here simply isn't logical. If anything he made it more possible for this to go to the supreme court as the current bills will be paid.
