Shunned Aside and Forgotten Yet Again: las muertas de Juárez
Edited on Fri Apr-02-10 07:42 PM by Mike 03
While I am satisfied that the drug cartel warfare going on south of the border, and now extending into the United States, is being discussed in the media, I am very upset that what has been so egregiously forgotten is the last decade of unexplained, probably sanctioned mutilations, rapes and femicides of hundreds and hundreds of women in Ciudad Juarez that has been laughed off, inadequately addressed or investigated on any level, and that these poor, anonymous and precious human beings have been left to rot in anonymity by the incompetency of the Juarez authorities and the media that cover this disgrace.

It makes me so angry that this apparently sanctioned corruption continues to exist, apparently without any constraints or attention whatsoever.

Because of the lack of credible investigations, it is impossible to know what is going on, but if hundreds and hundreds of teenage girls and young women get raped and murdered without explanation over a period of more than ten years, you have to start to wonder if this is not institutionalized serial murder, and I smell corruption at the highest levels.

There is something very wrong going on here. The homicides of these hundreds and hundreds of unknown, faceless daughters and sisters need to be explained and the perpetrators must be punished.

As horrific as the drug cartel murders are, let's not forget Las Muertas de Juarez. Are we even sure they are not related?

I apologize that this is the second time I have posted on this, but it is such a disgrace.

Thanks for bearing with me.

concluded last month, a worldwide recognition of this ongoing tragedy

in her novel, desert blood, alicia gaspar de alba suggests the situation is made worse by U.S. sex offenders and uncaught predators flocking to el paso, across the river from juarez, to jump on the easy prey.

thanks for keeping alive the memory of these dead children and women.

4. Women had just begun to dissapear when I left El Paso. A few bodies now and then.
I wanted to take my daughter and husband there someday, share the culture and the joy I found there.

No WAY I would take my family anywhere near Ciudad Jaurez right now. It's very, very sad to me.

5. Please don't let these faceless, anonymous teenaged girls die without respect.
Thank you for kicking this because I am dying to know how this crisis is being handled, or what I can do to help. It is so bad, I am unable to find the words.
