Americans: Screw the environment.....we want cheap gas !!!!
Americans Prioritize Energy Over Environment for First Time
Data represent a continuing shift in opinion toward energy production

by Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans are more likely to say the U.S. should prioritize development of energy supplies than to say it should prioritize protecting the environment, the first time more have favored energy production over environmental protection in this question's 10-year history.

View poll graph: http://www.gallup.com/poll/127220/Americans-Prioritize-Energy-Environment-First-Time.aspx

The March 4-7 Gallup poll was conducted a few weeks before President Obama came out in favor of oil exploration off some sections of the U.S. coast, and shortly after he advocated the expanded use of nuclear power in the United States.

The current data represent a continuing shift in opinion toward energy production. Since 2007, when Americans' preferences for environmental protection were the greatest (58% to 34%), Americans' opinions have shown significant movement each year in the direction of prioritizing energy production. This change has been evident among nearly every major demographic subgroup, although self-identified liberals have remained relatively steadfast in saying the environment should be a higher priority. ............(more)

2. I'm unhappy but for a different reason...
.. all of the cheap easy oil in America has already been extracted. And as far as I can tell, if you opened up all areas of America and coastline for drilling, maximum production would not even make a dent (a few percent) in our energy usage.

I actually kinda thought that these drilling bans were strategic. That is, that oil will be worth a lot more 10 or 20 years from now than it is now. I thought we were going to wait and take it then.

Silly me, thinking the government could possibly think strategically.

3. just part of the greed-trend
cut school budgets so we have less taxes

let the infrastructure crumble so we pay less taxes

eliminate food regulation so food prices stay cheap

let the unfortunate do without healthcare - keep my premiums cheap

Greed in the U.S. knows no bounds

4. Pretty much an acknowledgment that the earth is f*cked
Greed is good. Screw the grandkids and their children. The environment has been pushed over it's tipping point, and few give a damn.

Gonna be an interesting decade when several generations find out about how the laws thermodynamics work.

9. A race to the end point
I feel similarly. I'm not certain who will win the race to take us out.

Due to anthropogenic effects, do we have a water wars, famine or series of weather events that causes starvation and plague killing billions, or alternatively, does the Yellowstone super-volcano, or others, take out most if not all of our species first?

8. You think it's bad now?
Wait until gasoline gets back up to $4 a gallon. If we have any kind of meaningful recovery by the time that President Obama seeks re-election, it's going to be that much or more.

If we don't have any noticeable recovery, you can kiss his chances goodbye, but if we do get enough people back to work, fuel prices will drive inflation hard. There will be massive pressure to do whatever is seen to slow down the increase in the price of fuels, and offshore drilling in places not newly allowed will be on the table.

I'd be willing to bet that the President will approve it, given his recent performance on this issue.

11. Like I have said many times in the past...
If you want change in this country, jack up gas prices to 5 to 6 bucks.
