Dave Chappelle buys shopping center
Dave Chappelle hasn’t been the high-profile star of the comedy he once was; he’s done the occasional string of shows or surprise appearance, but largely, he’s been keeping to himself. So what exactly has he been up to when since he’s not regularly slinging jokes onstage? Would you believe it if we said he was buying a shopping center?

That’s exactly what Chappelle did this past weekend, bidding $470,000 on a local building in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Chappelle, who lives just outside Yellow Springs, bought the Kings Yard building from the very grateful current owner Cathy Christian. Christian had needed the money to help take care of her mother.

“He is my hero. I am now able to really take care of my mother,” Christian told the Dayton Daily News.

Chappelle said he is unsure what he is going to do with his recent purchase. Could there be a new comedy club coming to Yellow Springs in the near future?

7. The jokes still kept fresh.
They still work. CC wouldn't still show it after all these years otherwise.

Just ignore their pissant replacement Ned "Carlos" Mencia. His jokes were never fresh.

42. I'm Of Two Minds About His Show
Yes, I do miss it because it was hysterical TV, but I also know that it's impossible to keep sketch comedy fresh season after season. Soon, it would have deteriorated.

Instead, we are left with a string of bits that are still funny to this day.

10. I met Dave a few years ago in
NorCal, he was driving through the Redwoods being a tourist. I talked with him for several minutes, shared some locally grown herb and had a laugh. He wasn't like the Dave I have seen in shows, reserved, careful even. Nice guy and far more thoughtful than I had given him credit for.
Good on him for investing in his community.

I was once on the same elevator as Phyllis Diller.
It was painful.
But yeah, he was parked at a little turn out on Avenue of the Giants, sitting on the hood of his rental and staring at the tree's.

As for Phyllis Diller I one met Barbara Walters. Same reaction.

23. I saw him on Actor's Studio
recently. I didn't know that much about him before but he came across as a really decent human being, down to earth, kind, considerate. I got the sense he had to get away from some of the show business people he was dealing with in order to have control over his life the way he wanted. He said something interesting about fame. You can become famous, but you can't become unfamous, but you can become infamous, something like that.

A small operation so far, but some buildings are being rehabbed and greened. I wonder if this might have been a factor in the mall purchase.

one of my many wonderful and transformative experiences, Entering Glen Helen was, for me, like entering a world I felt was real and natural, a world I had previously experienced only in a few brief encounters before. Happily the Antioch affiliated Glen Helen group have kept it intact.

30. Shopping Center???? I can't buy a house for that around here
Having a single currency in the entire US is insane.

My 900 square foot condo is valued not too differently from this entire shopping center. A two bed house is about 525,000 minimum even after the price decline of the last 18 months.

:grrrrrr:
