K & R if you think MSNBC should offer David Schuster a fat raise to keep him.

I am a huge Schuster fan and hate to see him move to CNN - which I don't watch...but will for Schuster, and only Schuster.

Yeah - Schuster shouldn't have gone behind their back to make a test tape. Whatever.
I just think that Msnbc is making a mistake in letting him go, he fits in so well with their lineup :(.

They fired Phil Donahue. They seem to love putting awful anchors on air (David Gregory, Chuck Toad, etc.)

7. David Gregory - what is up with that? He is horrible!
He has no personality. He doesn't ask good questions. He never follows up on what his guests say. Even Tim did a better job on MTP than David.

Meet the Press should've gone to Schuster. Big Mistake.

18. Decoded: Shuster insists on being factual.
He should have had his own primetime show LONG ago. He is great. Doesn't let the BS stand, always makes the corrections.

I really can't believe that in this country that means he is left. How sad is that? Is there any elected or media right wing person that is always factual? Can anyone name just one???

24. Hey...Don't get me wrong...I like him and he's not particularly "left"..
IMO...It's just that, in this frigging media and all over political climate, you're considered "Left" if you're not right of John McCain!...It would be a joke if it werent' so frightening.

I'm in Thom Hartmann's age group and came of age in the Sixties when we had people like Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman, freaking A, Students for a Democratic Society, etc....It was a completely different world...I don't think any of us could have imagined this "takeover" by the Right.

TH is correct when he says that today, someone like Dwight Eisenhower would be considered a "moderate democrat".

70. He had the 6 to 7 p.m. slot after Hardball for a while
and he got dropped for Ed's program.

At that time, Shuster's program was as close to straight news with balanced commentary that MSNBC got in the evening. Now, I loved his show but given that he's already proven that he can't hold an evening audience I'm not sure the MSNBC should fork out the bucks to keep him.

78. Well, you've given me two questions....As to why CNN would hire him
even though they've moved, IMO, dangerously to the Right, they probably STILL want to give the "appearance" of some "balance"...Consider: Even FOX has Alan Colmes.

As to why he would go there...I wondered this myself and I was kind of mad at him for doing so, but then I thought...Maybe he felt his career was stalled at MSNBC, for some reason...You never know..Work place politics, etc.

As far as CNN being "Rapture Right" I agree completely -- but even MSNBC can be very conservative during the day ..I mean "Morning Joe"?....I've never been able to watch that show for more than five minutes, unless they have a good liberal guest on...After he or she leaves, I turn it off...Can't stand Joe, Mika, "Willie" or Barnicle...Right wing tools, the lot.

21. Punishment is what they have in mind.
Large organizations require unflagging loyalty...to THEM..

He stepped across a line, and now they will make an example of him. Hopefully, CNN will come through for him, and he won't be left out in the cold. The sad fact is that now his "worth" is significantly diminished, since he's likely to lose his MSNBC gig (if it's not gone for good already). CNN can (and probably will) offer his less now than they might have before:(

23. He Violated A Contract...
I like David, but when you put your name on the dotted line, you don't go and audition for a prime compeititor. Personality and politics don't give someone a free pass when it comes to breaking one's word. Here's hoping his CNN pilot went well and we'll see him on there in 6 months or whenever his current contract is over.

30. I agree
He was under contract to MSNBC, so his actions seem out of line. That said, I'd like to know more about the circumstances that led him to make the pilot for CNN. I think there is more to this than we know - especially given CNN is currently on a downward spiral, why would he consider jumping ship?

34. A Job Is A Job...
I can't answer why he did this...especially if he has an agent to handle such things. I view a contract as one of the few "sacred" things in this world.

The irony here is I see people who would jump up and down about someone violating their marriage vows...a contract, albeit different, but think it's ok he "cheated" on his current employer.

45. MSNBC should never have given Ratigan one of Shuster's two hours
that is when the FIRST screw up occurred.
Shuster's ratings were rising when he had the two hour show, there was no reason at all for MSNBC to cut Shuster's show in half and give that 'big mouth hollering' Ratigan one of Shuster's hours!

48. Ye Who Has The Gold Makes The Rules...
The bottom line is when you are under contract you are required to perform whenever or wherever you're asked...if not, then don't sign on the dotted line.

I'm sure we'll hear David's side of the story, thus I'll reserve further judgement as to what his motivations were.

in the MSNBC management, which may shed some light on the present. It is dated Sept !, O8, when Rachel had just gotten her own show on MSNBC...It gives an interesting perspective from the right of internal NBC, MSNBC thinking; The lamenting of MSNBC's shift left while NBC's right approach (Brokaw et al.) and its sometimes angry responses to folks like Olbermann Rachel and Chris, and how that all works...or not, again, from the perspective of the right. Some interesting statistics. Its a long article.

but now I glad to see him go. Can't stand his gossipy effeminate presentations and his former motor mouth partner Camran Hall.
I usually watch CNBC in that time period, not air heads on MSNBC repeating same ole same ole. Can't stand "Ricks'List" on CNN
he is too ethnic, and so is CNN. CNN catered to the minorities and doesn't dare replace them.
Dave may end up on FOX as did many of cnn readers ended up there, Greta Van Susteren etc.
