For some damn reason, reasonable people with strong reasoned opinions get steamrolled by the government's utter indifference, while completely batshit irrational people with ugly and unreasoned opinions receive utter deference from the same government. Somebody told me it was because of the first amendment's guarantee of freedom of religion, though he plainly didn't get that I didn't want to take whackos' freedom of religion away. I just objected to the government respecting their "strongly held beliefs", and ONLY theirs, and only respecting beliefs that have an imaginary friends attached to them while shitting on everyone else's.

You have found the key.
