Gingrich on this Congress: ‘We will repeal virtually everything they did’
By Aaron Blake - 04/08/10 05:28 PM ET

NEW ORLEANS -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday that he thinks Republicans will repeal “virtually everything” the Democrats have done in the 111th Congress.

Speaking to a crowd of about 300 in New Orleans before the start of the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, Gingrich upped the rhetoric. He repeatedly called the Obama Administration a “secular-socialist machine” and said its moment is fleeting.

“The left has a very temporary moment in history when it has both Congress and the White House,” Gingrich said. “I think we will repeal virtually everything they did.”

Gingrich, who has spoken out in favor of repealing the healthcare bill, has since added that it’s not feasible until Republicans return to the White House in 2013.

Repeal has been a hot-button issue ever since the bill passed, with the GOP candidates and leaders debating how to proceed on the idea. Some Republicans worry about promising too much and not being able to deliver, and Gingrich has urged Republicans to be honest about how possible repeal actually is.

28. I keep seeing those bumper stickers around here
And you know, I think those two should be encouraged to run on the republican ticket. Nothing could possibly be better for democrats than a Palin/Bachmann ticket vs Obama/Biden. People might like what she says, but I seriously doubt they'd actually vote for her.

4. I'm convinced republicans would be most happy if America just failed and all
citizens lived in outright misery. How can one conclude otherwise... It is repeatedly clear they have absolutely no interest in the betterment of mankind or any species anyplace on the face of earth. The republican party is now a pack of barbarians infested with greed, ignorance and cult religion.

22. It's like Homer Simpson said,
"There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Simpson way"

Bart: "What's the Simpson way?"

Homer: "The wrong way, only faster."

Substitute Simpson with Republican.

24. I was very gratified
to read a LTTE in our local newspaper yesterday from an old business acquaintance whose politics I never considered (although we live in a very RED region of Washington state. Not far from the recent Sen. Patty Murray threatener guy...).

This guy's letters stated he'd been Republican all his life (he's in his 60s now) and he is so repulsed by the Republicans of now that he can't imagine ever voting for one again. He called them out as the obstructionists and non-patriots they are.

This is a man with his own business and a lot of clients, so he's taking a risk in making his political views known publicly. Hopefully he'll get more people to think, and he represents a growing constitutency of people with actually some intelligence who are disgusted with the GOP and ready to bail on them!

5. They want to finish
the work of George W Bush.

That's why they should be elected.

If only Nikita Kruschev were alive to see this. He'd be so proud. "You buried yourselves!"

It amazes me that this serial philanderer and massive douche bag has the stones to appear in public and fancy himself a political leader.

11. He seems to be speaking out a lot lately
That tells me he's probably considering throwing his hat in the ring for the 2012 nomination.

Gingrich knew he was on to something with his 1994 "Contract with America" program. He caused a massive overturn in the composition of Congress, which influenced the entire remainder of the Clinton Presidency. If it hadn't been for lackluster Bob Dole winning the Repuke nomination in 1996, Bill might well have only been a one-term President.

I'm sure that Gingrich has thought long and hard about that, and isn't going to waste the coming opportunity. America seems to get over sex scandals (such as Newt's marital travails) fairly quickly, he probably figures he's been on the sidelines long enough for it to be old news. And he's not going to just let Caribou Barbie dash the momentum he perceives as swinging in the Rethugs' way.

12. I'm so glad he said so.
Because this is a splendid reason for Democrats, however disappointed, to go vote in November. We cannot allow these... people... to undo the little which has been accomplished! We've had enough difficulty trying to move forward; now it's obvious we have to work very hard to prevent going backwards.
