Not nearly enough, it appears, as I still see this form of bigotry tossed around in the forums. I alert on it whenever I encounter it, as it's very divisive and counterproductive to civil discussion. I believe that anyone who is unable to refrain from making bigoted comments - whether related to region, ethnicity, age, sex, religion, etc. - is sucking the oxygen out of the forum, making the perpetrator a troll.

4. Some discussion are not regional bigotry however.

I have been in on a few of the Confederate flag debates lately and noted that both southerners and others oppose the display of the confederate battle flag. I myself grew up down south and have nothing against the region. I do vehemently oppose the glorification of the rebel cause however.

That's not what I was talking about when I mentioned regional bigotry, however. I'm opposed to blanket insults of everyone from an entire state or region, and that's entirely different from opposing hateful ideologies. When I see posts that say something like, 'there must be something in the water down there' or 'sheesh! Those people from <fill in the blank> are sure stoopid,' it makes me wonder WTF they're doing on an ostensibly Democratic board.
