The danger of "letting it slide".

As liberals, most of us are instinctively tolerant of alternative lifestyles, strange philosophies and just damn near anything or anyone who isn't actively threatening us or those we love.

We "accept". We "ignore". We "live and let live". We "go with the flow and ride with the tide".(Thanks to James and Carly)

Nixon was an asshole who broke the law, but some of us have fit into that same category at some point in our lives, so "what the hell" if he was never prosecuted and never went to prison?

Reagan was a smooth-talking nod-and-smile marionette who cut secret deals with the Iranian mullahs and the Contras, began the dismantling of America's unions and torpedoed the "Fairness Doctrine". Just for grins, Ronnie defeated America's arch-enemy, Grenada, population: 100,000. And, America smiled and applauded.

Bush the Elder invaded Panama and Iraq. Both invasions were later shown to have been justified by gross exaggerations and outright lies. "No biggie".

And, of course, "W"; "the Chimp"; "Dim Son". This gold-plated anal sphincter had never succeeded at anything before being awarded the Presidency of the United States by the shameful 5-4 decision of a sluttish SCOTUS and nothing in his eight years of "service" put a blemish on that record. The last list I saw stated 20-some grounds for impeaching this smirking frat-boy, but, after taking control of Congress, we took impeachment "off the table".

And, so, today, our Congressmen are getting spit upon, called racial epithets and threatened with death.

After a TeaBagger TV commentator said he'd meet the census worker at the door with a shotgun,---SURPRISE!---someone fired a shotgun into the air to scare off a census worker.

Teabaggers and other blatant racists now parade on the National Mall with insulting and racially-themed posters portraying the elected President of the United States as a witch doctor, a Nazi, Hitler, a communist, a Joker and a corpse.

In other places, Teabaggers strut around with guns and signs threatening to "water the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants".

This weekend, a large crowd of Teabaggers is expected to "muster" with their firearms at the ready just a mile or so from the Mall on the anniversary of Waco and Oklahoma City.

One wonders how different things would be if Dick Nixon had been seen being led away to prison; if the Chimp---and Cheney---were even now awaiting trial AFTER President Pelosi had finished their term; if those carrying guns to Presidential appearances had been arrested and at least investigated as so many who dared to merely criticize W were.

I'm afraid it is "slip-slidin' away". If we don't enforce OUR laws, they will enforce THEIR "laws".

with a heart tugging finality. Well and clearly said.
We are dishonored and greatly diminished by that the criminals are going free.
